Pam Bondi isn’t going to have a great week. The former Attorney General had been trying to avoid testifying before the House Oversight Committee about her role in handling the Epstein files. Democrats on the committee said she’s “illegally defied our committee, skipped her deposition, and has refused to cooperate.”
Republicans said there was no need for Bondi to testify as she’s no longer Attorney General, though this argument appears to have failed and she’s now confirmed to testify on Friday, May 29th.
This is all theater and completely unnecessary. They were happy giving the Clintons a free pass for months.

We have secured Bondi's appearance for May 29.
Today, we're marking up legislation to tackle fraud at the federal level and all Democrats can talk about is Epstein. https://t.co/rfNaUA64A8
But, as bad as this week is shaping up, it turns out that the week Bondi was fired was far worse. Int the run-up to the hammer coming down, Trump had apparently been unhappy with her for weeks, concluding that she’d failed to pursue his political enemies aggressively enough.
She even accompanied him to the Supreme Court in an apparent effort to save her job, pleading with him to keep her in post until at least the summer. He refused, moving chairs so he didn’t have to sit next to her anymore. Bondi was promptly fired, which you might think would be the worst thing to have happened to her that week.
Well, think again, as a report from Axios says that she was then diagnosed with thyroid cancer “shortly after” being fired. Oof, talk about a kick in the teeth. Or, I guess, the neck.
It sounds like she’s out of the woods
Bondi immediately underwent treatment for the tumor and is said to be recovering, with the White House now appointing her to an “AI Panel”. Former White House official Katie Miller praised her resilience, saying on X:
Pam has been quietly kicking cancer's ass the last few weeks.@PamBondi has a heart of gold 💛 https://t.co/V7GZBk7fsL pic.twitter.com/sTwFLDfGvw

Fortunately for Bondi, thyroid cancer has a five-year survival rate of 95%, and if she’s back in work, it appears the treatment has been successful. This wouldn’t even be the first time someone connected to the Trump administration has battled this disease, with Jared Kushner secretly dealing with his own bout of thyroid cancer during Trump’s first term.
He underwent two surgeries and recovered, and Bondi taking up a new appointment indicates she’s done the same. It’s easy to gloat at any misfortune that befalls the Trump administration, but I wouldn’t wish cancer on my worst enemy. So, while I hope the heavy hand of consequences will land on her shoulder during Friday’s deposition, I am glad she isn’t facing a miserable death.
