Christians around the world have been left horrified by Donald Trump‘s recent mockery of Jesus Christ. Last night the president embarrassed his evangelical support base by posting an AI image of himself as Christ, with the rancid cherry on top a winged, horned demon floating over his head.
Condemnation rapidly arrived from Christians around the world for mocking Christ, with evangelicals doing their best to excuse this blasphemy by arguing that maybe he’s been temporarily possessed by a demon (no, he’s always like this).
But don’t worry, there’s at least one president who’s adamant that Christ must not be insulted. Enter Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Pezeshkian referenced both Trump positioning himself as Christ and his beef with the Pope, saying:

“On behalf of the great nation of Iran, I condemn the insult to Your Excellency and declare that the desecration of Jesus (peace be upon him), the Prophet of peace and brotherhood, is unacceptable to any free person. I wish glory for you from Allah. (Translation via X)
It has, of course, been noted that it’s somewhat awkward for the President of Iran to be more offended at the mockery of Christ than the President of the United States. Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Islam shouldn’t be too surprised, as Christ is revered in Islam as an important prophet.
Well at least one nation has Christ’s back
Technically, this should be an awkward moment for the Christian nationalists in the White House, as Pete Hegseth may be having to wonder how he’s going to square with God that he’s on the side of the guy mocking Jesus and bombing the guy saying Christ’s name shouldn’t be taken in vain. However, that would imply a degree of self-awareness I strongly doubt Hegseth has, so I doubt he’ll lose any sleep over this.
Arguments are raging in the comments between Trump supporters defending his blasphemy and Muslims saying they’re offended by Trump depicting himself as Christ. @MariamOssammaa simply asks:
“Why do Christians mock Jesus in this way? We Muslims love and respect Jesus more than Christians do.”
Qurux Wanaag agrees, saying:
As a Muslim, I stand with President Pezeshkian and Pope Leo XIV. Calling for peace is our shared duty across Islam and Christianity. Trump attacks the Pope for following Jesus’s teachings of peace — who is truly representing their faith here?”
This bizarre situation should underline that Trump is not a Christian. That fact should be apparent to anyone with a brain and functioning eyes, but American evangelicals still somehow kid themselves that this lying, unapologetic idolator is somehow a secret Christian behind closed doors. Newsflash: Trump only worships one god: Trump.
