‘Shame on them’: Trump admin halts child exploitation and human trafficking investigations to prioritize immigrant hunting

The classic sign of a smart authoritarian is identifying a small and vulnerable minority and then making them the scapegoats for everything wrong with society. For the Trump administration, the scapegoats are immigrants, who are blamed for everything from spreading disease to high gas prices.

If you buy into that, it’s only logical that law enforcement’s number one priority must be getting ir of them as quickly as possible by any means necessary. This is exactly what’s been happening, with ICE setting a quota of 3,000 arrests per day, and Trump ordering military interventions into Democrat-controlled cities so his masked goons can round up and imprison anyone they don’t like the look of.

But prioritizing hunting immigrants over all else comes at a price. So, what’s on the back burner for now? Oh, nothing important, just little things like investigating child exploitation and human trafficking. Yup, in their crazed hunger for immigrants to devour, the Trump administration is apparently perfectly happy to overlook kids being tossed into the sexual exploitation meatgrinder.

Sorry exploited kids, a tomato farm needed raiding

For those who’ve been campaigning to stop these heinous crimes, this is nothing short of enabling child abuse. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden called this out recently, saying in an open letter to the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari:

“Instead of locking up rapists, child predators and other violent criminals, Trump appears to be diverting investigators to target cooks, farm workers and students. Congress and the American people will not tolerate the Trump administration ignoring the ongoing sexual abuse of vulnerable children.”

That’s backed up by reports of intense discomfort in the Homeland Security Investigations division, which has long been focused on fighting cartels and disrupting major trafficking routes. Morale is low, with an agent quoted in The Atlantic as saying: “No drug cases, no human trafficking, no child exploitation. It’s infuriating” before clarifying he was thinking about quitting rather than spending his time “arresting gardeners”.

But hey, maybe when they’ve rounded up and imprisoned every last immigrant, they can refocus their attention on these other crimes. Only kidding! They will always need a new set of scapegoats, and exciting new steps are being taken in convincing America that trans people are the real reason why their lives suck!
