Kamala Harris just launched a major digital project called “Headquarters” by relaunching her popular social media presence. The former vice president and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee rebooted the old KamalaHQ accoun. The account already has over 1 million followers on X and more than 5 million on TikTok.
According to CNN, This is a partnership with the left-leaning group People for the American Way. The new project is meant to permanently change how progressives campaign online. It will post on Substack, YouTube, and other platforms.
The group wants to fix a big problem in American politics. “Conservatives build permanent organizing infrastructure. Progressives have historically built machines that dismantle after Election Day. Headquarters is the end of that cycle,” reads a press release from the new organization. They want to stop building digital operations that disappear every four years.
The project keeps Harris connected while experienced political operatives run the daily operations
Harris will hold the honorary role of chair emerita. She won’t oversee the daily posts. That work will be handled by advisers and the team at People for the American Way. However, many of her former campaign staff are involved.
Her top senior adviser Kirsten Allen and Rob Flaherty, who was a deputy campaign manager for the 2024 ticket, are part of the team. Parker Butler and Lauren Kapp, who ran the original KamalaHQ team, are staying on board as well.
Harris recorded a video for the launch showing her excitement about the project. “It’s where you can go online to get the latest of what’s going on, and also to meet and revisit with some of our great and courageous leaders, be they elected leaders, community leaders, civic leaders, faith leaders, young leaders. I’m really excited about it. Stay engaged, and I’ll see you out there,” she said.
This digital launch comes as Harris tours for her campaign memoir 107 Days. The tour now focuses more on what needs to happen next politically rather than just talking about the book. This matches exactly what Headquarters is designed to do. Her recent criticism of the Democratic Party’s direction shows she’s ready to push for change.
Harris has said she stepped out of politics for now, but she hasn’t ruled out another presidential run. At a Democratic National Committee meeting in Los Angeles in December, she talked about failures in the current system. She said “The American dream has become more of a myth than reality.”
Harris was direct about how people view the government. “Government is viewed as fundamentally unable to meet the needs of its people. In these and so many other ways, the people feel that the very institutions that were designed to support them have failed them,” Harris stated, before adding, “They are not wrong.”
During her book tour, she’s faced tough questions about the Biden administration that highlight ongoing political challenges. She’s building a permanent digital organizing tool while touring and calling for major change, which makes 2028 speculation hard to avoid.
