U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questions U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) during his Senate Foreign Relations confirmation hearing at Dirksen Senate Office Building on January 15, 2025 in Washington, DC. Rubio, a three-term Senator and a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, has broad bipartisan support from his Senate colleagues but is expected to face questions over Trump’s plans for Greenland, U.S. relations with Russia and the safe return of Hamas-held hostages. ‘Stop attacking pedophiles’: Yes, Ted Cruz really said that with a straight face and zero shame

That's.. a.. uh, bold position Ted.

Ted Cruz is arguably the most disliked man in the Senate, despised by both Republicans and Democrats alike. Even his theoretical ally Lindsey Graham didn’t mince his words in 2016 when he said: “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.”

Now it seems he may be going for the “most hated” record, being caught on camera saying… Well, check it out for yourself:

“How about we all come together and say let’s stop attacking pedophiles.”

Hm. Actually Ted, I don’t think we will. Frankly, I think a firm anti-pedophile position should be a given in any civilized society, to say nothing of ensuring they don’t reach high political office!

It’s not much better in context

At this point, you may be thinking, “Okay, that’s funny, but I’m sure it sounds better in context”. Well, think again. Cruz said this as part of a response to a point by Cory Booker about bipartisan agreement. His words in full!

“Sen. Booker also said we should have bipartisan agreement. I think that’s a great idea — we should have bipartisan agreement,” Cruz said. “How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop murders.’ How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop rape.’ How about we all come together and say ‘Let’s stop attacking pedophiles.”

Even knowing everything we know about Ted Cruz and his many moral failings, even I don’t really think he’s adopting a bold pro-pedo stance. After all, we already know Ted Cruz’s predelictions from that one time he accidentally publicly liked a clip from a video by adult studio Reality Kings on Twitter.

His like, which coincided with the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, saw Cruz post his approval of the adult video, in which a mother walks in on her daughter and a guy doin’ it, and watches the act while enjoying herself. Importantly, all parties involved are of age. So, while Ted may be into family-based adult content, he almost certainly isn’t into the illegal varieties of that content. Well, as far as we know!

That said, for a loyal Republican, a firm “let’s stop attacking pedophiles” stance would get many of his colleagues off a particularly uncomfortable hook at the moment. So, maybe he’s just trying to have his friends’ backs? And I’m sure the Oval Office will enjoy the loyal sentiment!
