Sean Hannity posted two preview clips on X on Monday from his conversation with Sen. Ted Cruz. The clips are from Hang Out with Sean Hannity. Hannity wrote that the full episode will be released Tuesday on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
In the first X clip, Hannity said that when Trump “goes hard in the paint,” he “will bludgeon opponents.” Cruz said Trump is good at it and “doesn’t have a medium speed.” Cruz then said, “my favorite attribute about Donald Trump is the guy has cast iron balls. He just does at a level that there’s no parallel in history.”
He said many Republicans, “including you and me,” are frustrated by “weak, lily-livered Republicans that are scared of a fight, that if anyone says boo to them, they run in the other direction.” Cruz said nothing scares Trump. He also said he would at times urge “a little more discipline and focus,” but called the fearlessness and energy “phenomenal.
Cruz told Hannity a Supreme Court job would have felt like a jail cell
Hannity shared a second clip on X with the caption quoting Cruz: “The sound I kept hearing was a jail cell clanging shut.” Cruz said he knows what a Supreme Court justice does. He said the justice reads briefs and cases and writes all day, working with “4 law clerks that are kids that are about 27 years old” and two secretaries. Hannity said Cruz would have been at an equivalent rank with those clerks.
Cruz said the job “is a very solitary lifestyle” and “very much an academic.” He said a justice is “in an ivory tower.” Cruz said he likes to read and write and that “this is my 5th book.” He said he enjoys writing. He also said he likes people, loves campaigning, and likes being in the fight.
“I like being in the fight with people,” Cruz said. He mentioned fighting on national security, Israel, and supporting law enforcement. Cruz said he thinks he would have been confirmed if the president had nominated him. Hannity said, “100%.”
Cruz said the image that stayed with him was “the day after I was confirmed, walking into my chambers and the door closing, and the sound I kept hearing was a jail cell clanging shut.” Cruz has also championed economic ties with Israel, as a reported $3.2 billion investment from Israeli companies into Texas shows.
According to Mediaite, Trump has talked about nominating Cruz to the court. In July, Trump said, “All Republicans will vote for him. All Democrats will vote for him because they want to get him the hell out of the Senate.” Trump said that if he were having a hard time getting the votes, he would appoint Cruz and get “100 percent, a guarantee.”
In February, Trump told a Texas rally crowd that Cruz is the “only guy” he knows who would get unanimous Senate approval because he is “such a pain in the a–.” Trump’s praise for Cruz’s fearlessness stands in contrast to recent tensions, as when Donald Trump Jr. accused Ted Cruz of lying through his teeth over the Iran deal.
