‘TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???’: Trump can’t decide on his party’s new name, and the options are… something else

Trump's party rebranding era starts again

President Donald Trump has shared some strange ideas for renaming the Republican Party. He asked on social media if the new name should be “TEPUBLICAN???” or “TPUBLICAN???” It’s unclear what the extra question marks and punctuation mean. He also suggested “TRUMPLICANS!” as another choice, posting the idea with a computer-generated image on Truth Social. Earlier, he wrote that “TRUMP REPUBLICAN” is now what almost everyone in the party should be called.

According to Unilad, these name suggestions come as Trump keeps hinting he might run for president again in 2028. This would be a huge problem because the 22nd Amendment clearly states a president can only be elected twice. Since Trump is now serving his second term after winning in 2016, running a third time isn’t allowed under current law.

Trump posted a AI-generated image of himself on Truth Social, holding a sign that said “TRUMP 2028, YES!” This is confusing because he’s said different things about running again. In October, he told reporters, “Based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run.” Then he added mysteriously, “So we’ll see what happens.” He also said earlier that running for a third term “is not something I’m looking to do,” though he said many people have asked him about it.

His approval ratings have hit rock bottom recently

If Trump doesn’t run in 2028, he already knows who he wants to replace him. When talking to CNBC, he quickly mentioned Vice President JD Vance, saying, “In all fairness, he’s the vice president.” Trump seemed to support Vance, adding that he would “be probably favoured at this point.” Meanwhile, US Representative Andy Ogles has suggested changing the law to allow three terms instead of two.

Things haven’t been going well for Trump lately. CNN’s c/hief data analyst, Harry Enten, called the last 10 days his “worst 10 day period” of his second presidency. Enten said the poll numbers are “just atrocious.” Even the best poll shows Trump trailing by 14 points, according to Enten. The president’s controversial decisions, including seeking advice from figures wanted internationally, have raised eyebrows among voters.

Trump’s overall approval ratings have dropped sharply to 38 percent in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll. This is bad news for the party heading into the midterm elections. Enten predicted that if these numbers stay the same, Republicans could lose their House majority.

Two main issues are causing this low approval. First, people are angry about inflation and rising costs. Enten noted that approval on this issue has dropped 37 points. Since Trump announced major tariffs in April, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that inflation rates have kept rising, which means higher prices for customers.

Second, the controversy around convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is hurting voter trust. Trump has been criticized for how he handled releasing the Epstein files. Only 20 percent of people approved of how he managed the case, and even Republican support is falling. Critics have also pointed to potential accountability issues in his administration that continue to concern voters.
