U.S. President Donald Trump looks on in the Oval Office of the White House on September 25, 2025 in Washington, DC. Trump is expected to sign executive orders, including approving a partial sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations, following a 2024 law requiring parent company ByteDance to divest or face a ban. ‘The president is unhinged. He is unwell’: Mike Johnson pressed by journalist, admits Trump suffering mental health issues

When even your closest allies admit you're crazy...

That the president is insane is just one of those things most Americans had to get used to. From 2016 onwards, Donald Trump‘s time in the Oval Office has been marked by near-daily statements that, if made by anyone else, would see the men in white coats arrive to drag them away kicking and screaming.

But it’s safe to say things have come to a head lately. Even by Trump standards, his speech to America’s top brass earlier this week was outright bonkers, painting an apocalyptic vision of a nation in chaos and instructing generals to prepare to use lethal force against their fellow Americans.

It perhaps goes without saying that this is all untethered from reality, with Trump apparently residing in a universe that bears little resemblance to y’know, stuff that’s actually happening. Now, after months of pretending the Emperor is wearing clothes, journalists are actually asking some tough questions.

Madeleine Dean just quizzed House Speaker Mike Johnson – a key GOP Trump ally – on the president’s sanity. His answer is extraordinarily telling:

When Dean put it to Johnson that “The president is unhinged. He is unwell.”, his only response was “A lot of folks on your side are too”. The key word here is “too”, which means Johnson totally agrees that Trump is “unhinged” and “unwell”.

“Our president’s crazy, did you hear what he said?”

Johnson also can’t even bring himself to defend Trump’s nutso speech to the generals, instead ducking the question by claiming he “didn’t see it”. Johnson, buddy, I get that your career and livelihood rest on Trump being in office, but have some respect and decide whether you really want to be known for your support of a president with a brain full of bad wiring.

It is easy to laugh at how crazy Trump is – and we will admit that occasionally this madness results in some very funny moments. But never forget that at all times, Trump possesses the ability to launch around 1,500 nuclear weapons at any time he chooses, an armageddon that would effectively wipe human civilization off the map.

That we’re in a place where that power is in the hands of a man even his allies admit is “unhinged” should send a shiver up your spine.
