‘Tick tock goes the communist clock’: Donald Trump part-nationalizes key industry, embraces Marxist dogma, socialists overjoyed

Trump moving on from "grab em by the... " to "seize the means of production!"

Donald Trump and the American right throw around the word “communism” like confetti. Disney movies with girl heroes: communism! Life-saving vaccination programs: communism! Getting a post deleted on social media: somehow also communism!

But it seems that all this has been a smokescreen to allow Comrade Trump to sneak Karl Marx in through the White House back door, as he’s made an extremely Marxist move by ordering the government to buy and control 10% of chip manufacturer Intel. Nationalization – or part-nationalization – of key industries is a core tenet of socialism, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the right.

Rand Paul couldn’t believe his ears, ranting: “Today it’s Intel, tomorrow it could be any industry. Socialism is literally government control of the means of production.” Over on the opposite side of the political spectrum, Trump’s actions have Bernie Sanders overjoyed: “Taxpayers should not be providing billions of dollars in corporate welfare to large, profitable corporations like Intel without getting anything in return” while urging Trump to go further.

Comrade Trump’s bold socialist vision has already caused displeasure with capitalist economists who, perhaps in an echo of the warnings given to Allende’s Chile, said “economic instability” may follow:

Viva Comrade Trump!

We can only echo Sanders and hope that Trump recognizes that seizing private companies is the duty of any leader who cares about the welfare of the working class. After all, their vast profits are built on the sweat of their workers’ surplus value and, under government control, we the people should own them.

So, with a bold new future coming, perhaps it’s time for Trump to nationalize Intel, Nvidia, and heck, even Apple, and reconfigure them into a worker’s cooperative. In addition, as Trump is surely aware, full nationalization would underline the existing class struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Comrade Trump must dismantle the economic power of the bourgeoisie and follow the path towards a classless society where the nation’s resources benefit all rather than the few!

We can only raise a toast to Comrade Trump for his commitment to Marxist dogma and eagerly await his stirring rendition of “The International” at the next party conference.
