Trump brings back a tired rumor while Rep. Ilhan Omar drops one killer question he’ll never answer

This might be the last Trump will ever speak of Omar.

President Donald Trump resuscitated the continuously debunked claims of Rep. Ilhan Omar committing immigration marriage fraud by way of incest. And this time, Omar didn’t just take it lying down — she delivered Trump a swipe so vicious, he might never speak of her again.

At this point, it’s no secret that Trump doesn’t like Minnesota or Somali immigrants. He’s called them all manner of dehumanizing epithets that most people don’t see any reason worth repeating. It got so bad that Severance director Ben Stiller took to his X account to remind people that no community should be referred to as “garbage” — once upon a time, it was the president cleaning up the mess of Hollywood stars, not the other way around.

Trump decided to be more targeted with his attacks and went after Omar in particular. Taking to Truth Social, the president partially wrote of the Congresswoman: “the worst ‘Congressman/woman’ in our Country, Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how ‘badly’ she is treated, when her place of origin is a decadent, backward, and crime-ridden nation.”

As you can imagine, in support of the president, accounts closely aligned with MAGA took to X to give precedence to the rumor, even asking Rep. Omar directly if she, indeed, married her brother. Little did they know that one of the reasons Omar has been able to carve out a unique place for herself in US politics is because she has so much in common with the president — including his quick wit. She immediately dismissed these claims and asked for an update on the Epstein files, dryly asking for clarification on whether Trump is a pedophile or not.

Like Trump, Omar has had quite a tumultuous love life. She’s been married four times. Like Trump, one of her spouses was not a US-born citizen. Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was her second husband — and thanks to a rumor started on an internet forum called SomaliSpot, some people were led to believe that Elmi and Omar were siblings. But according to Omar herself and PolitiFact, that’s a false claim. PolitiFact even tried to find answers from Omar’s hometown paper, but nobody was able to prove Omar and Elmi were siblings. Trump should perhaps be able to empathize with falling victim to fake news.

Where the two differ, however, is their understanding of immigration policies. Rep. Omar has made it abundantly clear that she considers every single Somali who entered the US legally deserving of rights and dignity. Trump, on the other hand, prefers to cherry-pick who is deserving of immigration into the US. He released a list of 19 countries that he considered “third world” and chaotic — while making a specific exception for the white farmers of South Africa, despite claims of a white genocide being denied by every reputable publication you can find.

But first, Trump should probably respond to Rep. Omar’s blunt question.
