Trump plays a Harry Enten clip at his Tennessee rally to brag about beating Reagan. At the same moment, the analyst is on TV reporting a 53-point drop

Trump wouldn’t have been much thrilled about Enten’s latest breakdown.

At a Saturday rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, President Donald Trump directed his team to play a recent CNN segment featuring chief data analyst Harry Enten on the large screen behind him. The portion shown centered on Republican voters’ views of the president.

Before the clip started, Trump pointed out the network involved. “Of all groups, from CNN, can you believe that?” he said, according to Mediaite.

Viewers at the event heard Enten outline how support for Trump among MAGA Republicans had shifted only slightly, moving from 99 percent to 98 percent since 2024. Enten described the figure as a favorable development for the Republican Party as the midterms approach, noting that the same group of voters indicated they would support Republican candidates.

Enten emphasized the durability of that backing in the segment. “That support is really holding up strong,” he said. “It’s really, really strong.”

He also referenced a survey asking Republicans which presidents they most admire. The results he cited gave Trump 53 percent of the responses, compared with 18 percent for Ronald Reagan and 8 percent for Abraham Lincoln.

People in the audience applauded while the numbers played. Trump turned toward the crowd several times during the clip and smiled. Once the video concluded, Trump addressed the segment directly. “Thank you, CNN!” he said.

Trump had described the report as a positive one before it aired. He said it ran counter to the “fake news media” narrative that he claimed was “trying to demoralize Republican voters with bad journalism and rigged polls.”

While the rally video played, Enten was simultaneously appearing live on CNN with a separate analysis that covered different ground. In that broadcast, he examined shifts in public opinion on inflation and related costs.

Enten said affordability and inflation had worked in Trump’s favor during the 2024 campaign against former Vice President Kamala Harris. He stated that the picture had reversed over the subsequent two years, with Trump’s net approval rating on inflation moving from plus 8 points to minus 45 points as November approaches.

During the live segment, Enten reacted to the change. “Oh my goodness gracious!” he said. “He is 45 points underwater on the key issue of inflation, what is that? That’s a switcheroo of 53 points in the wrong direction.”

The two appearances occurred at roughly the same time, one shown to the Tennessee crowd and the other aired on the network. The gap between the two numbers was the story of the night, as conservative commentator Brit Hume said inflation was killing the Trump administration, citing a poll backing him up. The rally clip highlighted the MAGA support numbers and the most-admired presidents survey, while the live report focused on the movement in inflation approval.
