Virginia Giuffre’s family blasts the DOJ for giving Ghislaine Maxwell a platform to ‘rewrite history’

The family of the late Virginia Giuffre, a key accuser of Jeffrey Epstein, has publicly condemned the Department of Justice for its recent actions concerning convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. The family’s outrage centers on the release of transcripts from a prison interview between Maxwell and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, as well as Maxwell’s subsequent transfer to a less secure correctional facility.

The family told NBC News that they believe the Department of Justice’s actions provided Maxwell an opportunity to present a version of events that contradicts her conviction and undermines the courage of the many survivors who came forward. “During [Deputy Attorney General] Todd Blanche’s bizarre interview, she is never challenged about her court-proven lies, providing her a platform to rewrite history.”

The family released a statement with concern about what they described as a travesty of justice. The statement read “The content of these transcripts is in direct contradiction with felon Ghislaine Maxwell’s conviction for child sex trafficking. This travesty of justice entirely invalidates the experiences of the many brave survivors who put their safety, security, and lives on the line to ensure her conviction, including our sister.”

Maxwell is getting the chance to change history, according to family

The recent events follow the tragic death of Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of both Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew. She passed away at the age of 41 by suicide at her residence in Neergabby, Australia. Her death came a month after she was involved in a car accident with a school bus in rural Western Australia, an incident she had said left her with only a few days to live. Giuffre was one of the most visible figures to speak out against Epstein and his associates, and her death has left a void in the community of survivors.

Giuffre’s accusations were central to her advocacy. She maintained that Maxwell had sex trafficked her to Prince Andrew when she was seventeen years old. Prince Andrew consistently denied these allegations. Giuffre pursued a civil lawsuit against him, which resulted in an unspecified settlement in 2022. This legal battle and its conclusion were a significant part of Giuffre’s public life, alongside her steadfast efforts to hold powerful individuals accountable for their involvement in Epstein’s crimes.

The controversial interview with Maxwell, conducted by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche over a two day period, delved into her relationship with Epstein. During the questioning, Maxwell denied having trafficked anyone and claimed she never witnessed any non consensual sexual acts or any sexual activity involving minors.

She did, however, concede that Epstein could have been involved in such activities. Maxwell stated that she believed Epstein was responsible for some of the things he was accused of and insisted that she was not there to defend or protect him in any manner. The transcripts also revealed that she never saw anything inappropriate from Donald Trump.

Following the interview, Maxwell was moved from a prison in Tallahassee, Florida, to a minimum security correctional facility in Texas. This transfer has become another point of contention for Giuffre’s family. They believe that by moving a convicted felon to what they call a “country club prison,” the Department of Justice is sending a highly concerning message. The family stated that the transfer suggests child sex trafficking is an acceptable offense that will be rewarded, a conclusion they find deeply disturbing.
