Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia bigmouth who once practically branded herself MAGA’s most loyal foot soldier, has broken ranks with Donald Trump. And not quietly.
On June 23, Greene posted a fiery statement on X, lambasting President Donald Trump for what she called a “complete bait and switch” on the core promises of his MAGA agenda. Her main grievance? Trump’s surprise pivot back into foreign conflicts—most notably the recent strikes on Iran, which Greene sees as a betrayal of the very foundation of Trump’s original appeal.
‘No more foreign wars, no more regime change, and world peace’
Greene wrote in her post, “I spent millions of my own money and traveled the entire country campaigning for President Trump. His promises were clear: no more foreign wars, no more regime change, and world peace.”
But now, she says, just six months into 2025, those promises have evaporated. “We are back into foreign wars, regime change, and World War III,” she said. “It feels like a complete bait and switch to please the neocons, warmongers, military industrial complex contracts, and neocon TV personalities that MAGA hates and who were NEVER TRUMPERS!”
With an emotional appeal to the future of her adult children, Greene vowed to fight anyone who jeopardizes their right to a peaceful, secure life, one not dictated by endless military interventions and spiraling national debt.
“I am fighting for them to have a future,” Greene wrote, “free of America LAST foreign wars that provoke terrorist attacks on our homeland, military drafts, and NUCLEAR WAR.”
This sudden rebellion from one of Trump’s staunchest allies has left many political observers stunned—and more than a few keyboard warriors amused. One viral response summed it up perfectly: “Agreeing with Marjorie was not on my 2025 bingo card.”
But what prompted this MAGA schism?
Trump, long known for his “America First” non-interventionist rhetoric, launched a surprise military offensive against Iranian nuclear sites earlier this month, escalating tensions in the already-fragile Middle East.
Initially, the administration claimed a “complete success,” boasting that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been wiped out. But in typical Trumpian fashion, the narrative shifted almost overnight.
Officials walked back the victory lap, saying Iran’s nuclear facilities were only “partially damaged,” then later admitted they had “no idea” where Iran’s enriched uranium might actually be.
The cognitive dissonance was too much even for Greene. “We were told ‘complete success,’” she wrote, incredulous. “Now it’s ‘we don’t know where their enriched uranium is.’”
It’s not the first time Trump’s foreign policy decisions have clashed with his campaign rhetoric, but it’s arguably the first time a top-tier loyalist has called him out so directly—and with such vehemence.
And while Greene insisted she still believes in the MAGA vision, she clarified that MAGA isn’t a cult and Trump isn’t a king. “Contrary to what brainwashed Democrat boomers think and protest about,” she added, “I can and DO have my own opinion.”
Is MAGA splintering?
With Republican infighting heating up and Trump veering back toward the establishment playbook, Greene’s revolt may be the first of many. If nothing else, it proves that even in the most unexpected places, the political ground is still shifting.
Whether this is a fleeting tantrum or the start of a right-wing mutiny remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain: 2025 is not playing by anyone’s rules—least of all Marjorie Taylor Greene’s.
