It’s safe to say Donald Trump did not have a particularly happy Thanksgiving. His bad mood appears to have been kicked off by the attack on two National Guard troops posted just north of the White House.
The suspect is Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who had previously worked with the CIA and was granted asylum in April by the Trump administration after being welcomed into the country by the Operation Allies Welcome program.
Lakanwal’s motives and state of mind remain unclear, but he was objectively vetted and was in the country legally. But, sadly, the tide of facts and reality continue to crash against the immovable cliff of stupidity that is Donald Trump.
When Trump was quizzed about Lakanwal by reporters, one pointed out that “the suspect in the DC shooting was vetted and it came up clean”. Trump confidently and incorrectly responded that “there was no vetting”. The reporter responded:
“Actually, your DOJ IG just reported this year that there was thorough vetting by the DHS and the FBI of these Afghans who were brought into the US.”
And Trump promptly went bananas. How dare you try and contradict the president with observable reality and things that actually happened!

Throwing his toys from the pram, Trump burbled:
“Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person? Because they came on a plane along with thousands of other people that shouldn’t be here and you’re just asking questions, because you’re a stupid person and we.. there’s a law passed that it’s almost impossible not to.. to get ’em out… You can’t get ’em out, once… they come in. And they came in, and they were unvetted, they were unchecked, there were many of ’em and they came in on big planes! And it was disgraceful!”
Well done, Mr President, that was almost a response worthy of a five-year-old. It probably should be alarming that the leader of the free world responds with childish insults whenever anyone points out he’s wrong, but at this point, it’s par for the course for Trump. Maybe we should even be slightly impressed that he didn’t stoop to insulting her appearance and didn’t drop any slurs!
