A Goodwill shopper paid $10.99 for a vintage piggy bank. She ripped the bottom open and found a staggering amount of cash hidden inside

I would like to get this much from a piggy bank.

One TikToker paid just $10.99 for a vintage piggy bank only to discover more than $2,000 stuffed inside. I know what you’re thinking, and I’m thinking it too, that should have been me!

The lucky shopper, known on TikTok as @miles8katrina, posted the viral video showing the moment she uncovered the cash hidden inside the retro 1970s bank she bought from Goodwill. This is absolutely the kind of jackpot we all dream about when we wander into a thrift store.

The footage begins with Katrina trying to figure out why a bunch of plastic bags were jammed into the hole at the bottom of the bank, per the Daily Dot. She was pulling out a long string of these bags, looking completely confused. It turns out those bags were the perfect camouflage for the real treasure. Once she finally cleared the blockage, she pointed the camera down the hole and revealed multiple bundles of cash, neatly bound with hair ties.

Is this legit?

As she fished the bundles out, her hands were visibly shaking. The video then skips forward to show the total haul laid out on a table. The amount is incredible. “I am in shock right now,” Katrina said in the video. “I just counted all of this money, and there’s $2,028.” She emphasized, “I paid $10.99 for this piggy bank, you guys, and oh my gosh.”

This kind of story is exactly what the internet loves. The original video documenting the find went completely massive, racking up over 3.7 million views in less than 48 hours.

However, when the video migrated to other platforms like X, the skepticism and outright accusations flew thick and fast. Many users assumed the entire thing was staged for clout, which is a common reaction whenever someone scores a huge viral hit like this.

One commenter, @_FloridaPatriot, didn’t mince words. They declared, “BS. She wrapped a roll of singles in every one. Don’t you think the seller would of realized the weight and checked.” They concluded with a jab, saying, “People are so f***ing gullible!”

This skepticism wasn’t just based on general disbelief; some people claimed to have inside knowledge about how Goodwill operates. These users argued that a large amount of cash would never make it to the floor.

For example, @ta_kollar claimed that the thrift organization has totally changed its process. “BS goodwill has the most elaborate handling in the back of their stores now including experts which control what stays and what goes to state hubs that are the most valuable items,” they stated, adding that this change happened “All this since COVID.”

Another user, @BeatZap_io, agreed with that assessment, saying, “Fake I know because when stuff gets donated they search it and take the good stuff before it hits the shelves.” They noted that while cash crumpled in a pocket might slip through, a piggy bank is definitely going to get checked.
