Amazon driver goes out of his way and cleans up a customer’s porch. Then he’s sued, fired and served with court papers: ‘only in America’

Key doorbell footage went missing

A TikTok video posted by @jeffecxt79 that has drawn 84,800 views described an Amazon delivery driver named Mike who said he stopped during a drop-off to set a fallen flower pot back in place and clean dirt from a customer’s steps. The video said the extra work later led to a lawsuit, a firing, and court papers.

The video said Mike delivered a package to a customer’s front door and noticed a decorative flower pot next to the entrance that had already fallen over.

Seeing no one around, he picked it up and put it back, then spent a few extra minutes cleaning dirt off the steps before he left. Mike joked at the time, “Maybe I’ll get a good review for this,” the video stated.

Missing doorbell footage became the center of the customer’s claim

A few days later, the customer allegedly noticed a visible crack along the edge of the flower pot. The customer then checked doorbell camera footage, the video said.

For some unknown reason, part of the earlier footage was missing, the video stated. The only footage available showed Mike walking over to the flower pot and picking it up, with no clip showing when or how the pot had fallen in the first place, based on the account.

The customer then concluded, “If you didn’t knock it over, why did you go out of your way to pick it up?” the video said. According to the footage described in the video, Mike was the only person seen touching the flower pot.

The customer then sued Mike and demanded that he pay for the damage, the video stated. Mike kept trying to explain what had happened, but because the key part of the footage was missing, he had no way to prove his side of the story. For delivery drivers, disputes over missing items aren’t isolated, as when an Instacart driver delivered an order and got a signature, only for the item to be reported missing.

The company fired Mike because of the incident, the video said. He was later served with a court summons, according to the same account. The video asked viewers if they were in his position, would they still have picked it up.

Viewers left a range of reactions under the post. One commenter wrote, “only in America.” Another commenter said people had become harsh in everyday situations and wrote, “People are just Ugly.” A third commenter tied the story to a wider drop in small acts of help and wrote, “Exactly what is wrong with the world and no one is kind and nice anymore.”

Some viewers said they did not believe the clip. One commenter wrote, “made up story.” Another pointed to the package in the video and wrote, “This has to be fake. If you look closely to the package he is delivering it has been opened already, if he was actually delivering a package from Amazon, it would be sealed with Amazon tape on the top, not how it appears in the video.”

Such skepticism about online transactions is not uncommon, as seen when an Amazon customer was left out $2,000 after allegedly receiving empty watch boxes back-to-back. Other viewers urged the same choice anyway. One commenter wrote, “keep on being a good person..no matter the outcome….”

The details in this write-up are based solely on claims made by @jeffecxt79 in the video. The incident has not been independently verified.
