American on holiday in Northern Ireland claims the Irish left her in tears, but all they did was ask who she voted for

The woman claimed the Irish made her feel unwelcome, but people on TikTok aren't taking her side.

An American tourist has found out the hard way that the Irish don’t mess around when it comes to politics after they asked her point blank who she voted for in the election. Her refusal to answer led to an uncomfortable situation for her but people on TikTok were hardly sympathetic.

American tourists have a rather bad reputation amongst the rest of the world. They are often seen as brash, insensitive, and disrespectful to the local culture. If you’re American and you’ve ever been a tourist then sorry to break it to you, but those are the stereotypes, they may not always be true, but that’s what the rest of the world thinks. Anyways one tourist found that out the hard way after a rather tense interaction.

In a now deleted video, a woman on TikTok claimed that she was “immediately accused of being a bad person,” after revealing that she was American in a bar in Northern Ireland. TikToker, “Pottymouthpollyanna” created a response video to the original in which she called out the American woman’s claims.

This is ridiculous. Why are you so embarrassed to admit it?

As the video goes on it soon becomes clear that the issues were less to do with the mere fact that the woman was American and more related to who she may or may not have voted for. “I’m not lying to you when I say it instantly went from ‘yes I’m American’ to ‘well who’d you vote for?’”

Politics is a sensitive topic apparently

The woman states that she quickly shut down the question claiming that she was on vacation and didn’t really want to talk about it. Pottymouthpollyanna asks why the woman wouldn’t want to answer the question while also pointing out that the people in the bar didn’t actually accuse the tourist of anything. Of course, the refusal to answer is kind of an answer in itself and it might explain why the Irish were less than kind to her following that conversation.

The woman claims it’s a sensitive topic, but let’s not forget, Trump’s policies and actions have an effect around the globe despite the fact that nobody outside of America voted for him. I think people from other countries have a right to be mad at American tourists who voted for the current president.

While the original account that posted the video has gone private, Pottymouthpollyanna was able to scroll through the woman’s reposts before she did so. There was more than enough evidence to suggest she voted for Donald Trump which begs the question, why was she so against sharing that information in Ireland? Was it because she knew her vote was a big mistake and she regretted it? Maybe. Either way, Northern Ireland probably isn’t the only place she wouldn’t be welcome.
