Atlanta Frontier gate agent allegedly shuts gate ten minutes before final boarding. Then her colleague ‘PUSHED’ her to let passengers board

There is never a good time for travel plans to go sideways, but a recent account from an Atlanta airport traveler might be one of the most stressful gate experiences I’ve ever read about. Reddit user Downtown_Statement87 shared a story about her experience while trying to board a Frontier Airlines flight in Atlanta to Philadelphia on July 9, 2026. According to her account, the situation at gate E42 was nothing short of chaotic.

She claims that she and her daughter arrived at the gate for their flight, which had a scheduled departure of 2:07 PM instead of the original 10:30 AM, with time to spare. Even though they were present seven minutes before the final boarding call, the Redditor claimed that the gate agent had already shut the door. When confronted, the agent allegedly shouted at the passengers that “she wasn’t gonna open no door.”

The traveler described the agent as being incredibly volatile, noting that when her daughter, whose birthday trip was the reason for the travel, began to cry, the agent reportedly told her to stop crying, adding that “it was not her problem, she didn’t give a s—, it was not her problem.” The situation escalated when another passenger arrived, still ahead of the final boarding call, and was also met with screaming.

Her story wasn’t even the original post

It’s worth noting that this is just the Redditor’s perspective and the events haven’t been verified. With the new passenger at the gate, Downtown_Statement87 claimed that a male colleague of the gate agent began arguing with her. He allegedly urged her to let the passengers board because they were on time. The agent allegedly retorted, “I don’t give a f—, that ain’t my Jon.”

In a move that sounds like something straight out of an action movie, Downtown_Statement87 wrote, “Finally, the male gate agent PUSHED her out of the way and opened the door for us and the other passenger and shouted ‘run!’ at us.” She described how they bypassed the agent, who was attempting to block their path while swearing, and ran down the jetway to join the line of passengers waiting to board.

Interestingly, this story emerged as a comment in the Frontier Airlines subreddit as a response to another user, comp21. This Redditor had posted about witnessing a frustrating encounter on July 18, 2026, during a flight from Sacramento to Las Vegas. In their post, comp21 described a gate agent who allegedly singled out two couples over bag sizes. When they stated that they would pay to check their bags in, the agent allegedly told them, “I don’t check bags.”

According to the Redditor, “first couple took their wheels off their suitcase. Agent watched the entire time. When they finished (now the bag will fit) agent states “we don’t take damaged bags” and laughed at them.” This couple eventually bought another bag to board.

However, the older couple couldn’t afford to do the same. They were also allegedly told they couldn’t store the bag at the airport. The Redditor claimed there was “Quite a bit of crying and they were denied entry and missed their flight.”

The discussion around these incidents highlighted a frustration regarding Frontier’s staffing. One user noted, “Fun fact, the customer service agents aren’t deployed directly with Frontier, but with various different contractor companies.” One Redditor agreed, stating, “Coming from a Frontier flight attendant, our gate agents are absolutely awful. They’re rude, unprofessional, and constantly on a power trip.”

Others noted the inconsistency in service with the airline. As one commenter put it, “Frontier gate agents aren’t known for their ability to communicate professionally. It’s the unfortunate reality of this low/no customer service airline.” One mother shared the downsides of this when every part of her Frontier trip went wrong. After making a booking mistake, she faced check-in issues and was separated from her toddler on the flight.

Another user added, “This is the problem with Frontier’s outsourced labor to lower cost companies. It’s noticeable as a passenger and I hear the FAs complain about it all the time.” A musician experienced this lately when he found himself blacklisted simply for buying a ticket for someone else

For Downtown_Statement87, the experience in Atlanta was so severe that she stated, “I will crawl on my knees across broken glass to my destination before I ever fly any airline that even puts me in the same terminal as Frontier airlines.” She concluded her post by telling Frontier, “There’s nothing you can do to fix this and you ought to feel terrible. Shame. On. You.”

One commenter, however, attributed the issues to the value and cost of a service. They wrote, “You get what you pay for on frontier this is the downside of a $50 ticket.”
