Bride is assured her wedding venue is ready. Then playground equipment suddenly appears where she planned to say ‘I do’: ‘I’m crashing out’

A bride who booked an Airbnb property for her wedding says new additions kept appearing in the exact spot where she and another bride had planned to exchange vows, even after she was told construction was finished. Content creator Britt+Wince posted a video on TikTok, saying she spent months dealing with unanswered calls, confusion over a referral program, and a property that seemed to keep changing.

According to Britt, the trouble started well before her wedding, when the Airbnb’s owners were reportedly considering taking over management from the existing team. She says she spent months trying to get a straight answer on the transition, sending messages that went unreturned for weeks at a time. “Left on read every time, left on read,” she said, adding that she eventually stopped following up because she worried she was being annoying.

When she finally got someone on the phone in late January, she was told the owners would not be taking over after all, and that construction on the property was complete. That work included three new bedrooms, a softball field and a football field. 

The answers she finally got only raised more questions

Britt said she was also told, unprompted, that the owner wanted to get out of the wedding business but planned to honor existing bookings. “The owner is planning on honoring reservations,” she recalled being told. Britt said it was the word “planning” that bothered her. “Like, I don’t like that.”

The referral program she says the property had offered her wasn’t going much better. According to Britt, the woman told her it was difficult to tell her referrals apart from other bookings, despite earlier assurances that they would be tracked. Britt wasn’t the only bride to say she discovered a major change to her wedding plans without hearing it directly from the people she hired. One Los Angeles bride previously said her venue changed her ceremony backdrop without telling her.

One commenter wrote, “We also wanted to do an Airbnb wedding and my biggest gripe is don’t say you allow weddings if you can’t commit to behaving like a wedding vendor.” Another commenter, who said she had a wedding coming up herself, wrote, “This is my worst fear… I’m PRAYING something like this doesn’t happen with any of my vendors.”

Things got worse when another bride who had booked the same property — and had been referred by Britt — reached out directly. She told her that new softball-field netting had gone up right where both women had planned to exchange vows. “I’m crashing out,” Britt said as she recalled learning about the change. The other bride also said she’d received a refund after the changes forced her to bring in additional rentals.

For couples with weddings already planned and paid for, a vendor suddenly changing course can leave little time to recover. A Dallas bride faced a similar scramble earlier this year when she said her makeup artist disappeared with her payment on the day of her wedding.

Britt says the other bride told her she arrived for her wedding to find even more changes: seven or eight pieces of playground equipment, a putting green near the ceremony spot and nine beds missing from the property altogether. As one commenter put it, “i really wonder how many other people booked that you referred and how many they cancelled.”
