‘Bro was definitely gonna try something’: Woman sets her dog on creep in the park but turns out he wasn’t a threat after all

They say dogs are a man’s best friend but maybe it’s the friendship between women and dogs that we should be talking about.

A clip showing a loyal dog defending his owner from an apparent stranger who emerged from some bushes is going viral on TikTok but it turns out there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

Lily was recording what looked to be a tutorial video on how to use a Dragon Staff for TikTok when she noticed a stranger heading towards her and whistling in the distance. It was a man and he had apparently come out of the bushes which is an instant red flag and definitely kind of terrifying. Who knows what his intentions were. Luckily for her, Lily had her dog, Chappy, who she casually sends out to chase away the apparent stranger.

The clip currently has over 100 million views and almost 13 million likes on TikTok. What really makes the video is the way Lily casually walks back into frame as her dog chases the man in the background. Also Chappy’s protectiveness is downright adorable.

The video started a debate on TikTok

While there is a bit more vital context that we’ll get to in a moment, the video actually started a debate in the comment section. Viewers were split over whether Lily’s decision to set a dog on a stranger in a public park was the right thing to do. Many praised Lily for her decision as the man’s intentions were unknown and the way he approached seemed awfully shady. One person wrote, “as a woman I would have done the same, it’s better to be safe than sorry.” Another seconded the fears of many in the comments writing, “Bro was definitely gonna try something.”

On the other hand, others thought that the man could have been just a normal innocent dude on an evening walk through the park, one person asked, “What if bro was just minding his business[?]” Which is a good point but the general consensus was that it was better to be safe than sorry. There are plenty of creeps out there, when a man emerges from the bushes without warning you wouldn’t want to risk letting him get close.

The full context behind the video

While it may have started a real debate regarding women’s safety around strange men, it turns out Lily and Chappy were never in any danger. In a follow up video she explains that the strange man actually turned out to be her boyfriend.

The reason she looks unsure in the video is due to the fact he was supposed to drive “but he ended up coming out of the bushes.” So for those concerned that Lily set Chappy on a potentially innocent stranger, it’s all good, in fact, going back and looking at the video now, it’s clear that the man seems to know Chappy and now we know why.

The main takeaway from the video is what a good boy Chappy is. If the man in the video had been an actual stranger there’s no doubt that he would have been well and truly scared away by the fearsome canine.
