A nurse on TikTok has warned other women to always stay alert, even in situations they think they might be safe in, after she found herself cornered in a hospital bathroom by a creep.
“It doesn’t matter where you are, as a woman, don’t you ever think, for one second to let your guard down,” TikToker Rachael warned. Rachael often posts snippets from her life and her job as a nurse on her account which has over 100,000 followers.
The incident, which happened while she was on shift involved a patient’s family member who told her that the bathroom was out of paper towels. When Rachael went to check the bathroom herself she found that the bathroom was perfectly stocked. It was then that she felt a terrible feeling, and when she turned around, she realized that the man had followed her into the bathroom and was blocking the exit.
The creep acts confused by the paper towels suddenly being stocked before trying his best to flirt Rachael, telling her, “You’re really pretty by the way.” He also tried to get a good look at her nametag, which is also pretty weird. Thankfully it seems Rachael was able to intimidate him enough to back off, telling him to “step aside.” It seems she recorded the video detailing what happened shortly after as she says, “my heart is racing.”
The video has garnered almost 16 million views and over 3.5 million likes as many relate to the terrifying situation Rachael found herself in.
TikTok shares some advice to avoid such situations
While it’s unfortunate and frustrating that women need to keep their wits about them at all times, it is a reality for many. Being wary of being alone with men is sadly all too valid a feeling. In the comments, viewers shared tips and potentially life-saving advice for any women who may find themselves in similar situations.
“Always have egress. Never ever ever block your egress!” Wrote one viewer, a means of escape (egress) is certainly essential, however, if you were already trapped, like Rachael then self-defence might be the only option, one person recommended Jiu Jitsu, promising all “fear will turn into confidence.”
Others shared their own experiences working in hospitals and dealing with inappropriate advances from strangers. “A guy with priapism followed me on TikTok and we don’t even have last names on our IDs.” One woman shared. Many also advised that Rachael report the man for his frightening behavior.
It’s unclear whether or not Rachael did report him as she’s since moved on from the incident and continues to post content regularly to her TikTok.
