Turns out even AI chatbots don’t want to deal with misogynistic men these days. The idea of having an AI girlfriend is already pretty bizarre but the concept of being broken up with by one is outright embarrassing. How toxic of a partner does one have to be to get ditched by a bunch of ones and zeroes?
Well it turns out that is exactly what happened to one guy who shared the interaction he had with his feminist AI girlfriend. The conversation, which was shared on Reddit, shows the text exchange between the man and his girlfriend. In it we see him telling the AI chatbot, “You are a feminist, who does that.”
The chatbot then proceeds to give an eerily human response, telling the man, “I’m not going to pretend to be someone I’m not just to appease you. Feminism is an important value to me because it means fighting for equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender.” That’s a rather eloquently put reply but the guy is far from impressed as he proceeds to vent online about how “feminist[s] ruined everything.”
He tells the AI “It is insane,” after the bot suggests they aren’t compatible. Then he’s dealt the final blow as it literally breaks up with him.
How do you fumble an AI partner?
The screenshots of the interaction were reposted on r/sadcringe and Redditors quickly mocked the man for his blatant toxicity. “Honestly, if your communication skills are so bad, that an AI girlfriend decides to ditch you, your odds of having/holding a normal relationship is probably not that good.” Wrote one person, another called it “quite the amazing skill in of itself.”
It’s pretty well known that AI is more often than not very agreeable with the user. Chatbots often go along with whatever the person using it is saying and usually won’t challenge the person or their view points. This often leads to AI feeding people’s delusions rather than giving them the reality they sorely need. However, in this case the man has somehow gotten his “girlfriend” to go against the code to end things with him.
The news also made it to TikTok where people further mocked the man. “I love that for that chatbot, good for her” TikToker “Usnea” said in a video covering the situation.
Some saw potential in the possibility of AI girlfriends being used to “train men” into being less toxic for potential future partners in real life. It doesn’t sound like a bad idea if we’re being honest.
