A new viral video from Wyoming shows how the “Great” America now perceives an accent as a threat. Don’t you miss the time when people used to hide their racism and bigotry?
The video shows an Amazon delivery driver dropping off a package. When any of us receives an Amazon package, our first instinct is probably to thank the delivery person and open the package. But for a MAGA grandpa, it was an opportunity to spark a full-blown confrontation.
The video begins with the man filming the driver as though he has caught a criminal in the act. “What happened?” the confused deliveryman asks, recording the MAGA grandpa recording him. “What, why won’t you talk?” the man snaps back. “I’m delivering Amazon,” the driver explains, panning to the package he just dropped off. “I don’t care. Why don’t you speak English?” the MAGA grandpa replies.
From there, the situation devolves quickly. The deliveryman stays calm, repeatedly thanking the man, while the MAGA grandpa follows him around the driveway. He circles his car and snaps photos of his license plate. “This is Wyoming. This isn’t f**king Colorado,” he yells, as if state borders are immigration checkpoints.
But his verbal attacks soon turn physical. As the driver tries to get into his vehicle, MAGA grandpa forcibly pushes the car door shut on him. When the deliveryman mutters something in Spanish, the MAGA man reacts as though he’s uncovered a plot. “Yeah, I got you too,” he sneers before whipping out his phone. “Hey Siri, call 911.”
On the call, he confidently tells the dispatcher, “Yeah, there’s this guy in front of my house who can’t speak English. You need to call the ICE on him.” Never mind that the driver was probably wearing Amazon gear, holding Amazon packages, and doing his job. He was also speaking English, just with an accent. One user on X joked, “He hears Spanish and immediately malfunctions like a cheap smoke alarm.”
Years of political messaging painting immigrants as invaders have conditioned supporters to treat bilingualism like a criminal offense. As one user put it, “Imagine calling 911 because someone knows more languages than you. Peak insecurity.”
Others were more blunt, calling out Trump and his media for enabling such behavior. “Never forget, Trump emboldened them to do this. This is inhuman,” they wrote. Another added:
“Imagine being so soaked in MAGA paranoia that you hear Spanish and your first instinct is to dial 911 like it’s a hate-crime hotline. That’s not “patriotism,” that’s being a grown adult who’s terrified of the Amazon guy because Fox taught him every brown person is a cartel operative.”
Users also urged Amazon to step in and protect its workers, with many arguing that the man should be banned from using the platform altogether. But even if Amazon dealt with this one customer, Trump-era messaging has produced people like him on every other street. And worse, many of them now treat ICE like a personal enforcement agency for their own discomfort.
