A woman who ordered a Waymo to pick up her daughter has shared the frightening moment the self-driving vehicle showed up with a man stuck in the trunk. The video, which has since gone viral on TikTok shows her confronting the man and questioning him, although he seems almost as confused as she is by the whole situation.
The video was posted by “luckythurman,” garnering over 3 million views. In the clip a man can be seen peering over the back seats, waving his arm at the woman recording. He can be heard saying, “This s— wouldn’t let me out,” suggesting that he somehow got stuck in the autonomous vehicle. The woman, sounding very concerned but somewhat skeptical, asks, “Why are you in it?” To which the man responds, “They just put me in here.”
When asked who put him in the trunk, the man fails to give a satisfactory answer, simply claiming “the people.”
The whole thing sounds like a creepypasta waiting to happen and the woman is certainly right to be wary of the guy. Who knows if he’s telling the truth or if he had some unsavoury motives. Unfortunately there are plenty of men out there that would try something like this.
Has anyone had a positive Waymo experience?
One commenter joked, “I think he’s just as scared as you lmao,” and another quipped, “I have never in my life seen a positive Waymo video.” Last month a Waymo allegedly ran over a local beloved cat in California. That being said, the robo-cars have proven to be quite effective in certain scenarios.
Some did wonder if he was genuinely stuck although many others wanted more context as they suspected the man may have been lying. “Was he quiet until you noticed him?” Asked one, which is a very valid question, if he was truly stuck in there he would no doubt have been shouting for help. A few viewers recommended the woman sue Waymo.
What happened to the guy?
In a follow-up video, luckythurman shows the police seemingly arresting the man, or at least questioning him on the sidewalk. Meanwhile another woman can be seen speaking presumably to the customer service at Waymo as she says they’ll order a new one.
Unfortunately there isn’t a lot more context to the situation. The original poster did respond to one comment asking whether the police arrested the man, but apparently they had no choice but to let him go. It’s likely they couldn’t prove he had any ill intent if he was claiming he’d been locked in there by someone else, although you have to wonder who would throw somebody in the trunk of a Waymo?
Either way, it pays to be cautious when entering a Waymo, especially if you’re travelling alone as they are driverless cars meaning nobody would know if there was a secret passenger lying in wait.
