Insurance companies are still incredibly slimy and predatory in 2026 and if you need proof of that you really don’t have to look far. Just look at TikTok for example, where one woman’s life-saving heart surgery was denied by her insurance provider despite her paying $10,000 a year for her policy.
TikToker Noah Jones posted a video where she crashed out over her insurance denying her emergency surgery and rightly so as the much needed procedure would save her life. Despite this, her health insurance told her that it would not cover it and that she would have to pay out of pocket.
As we all know, healthcare in the U.S. is expensive and Noah reveals that the price she’d have to pay is around $60,000. It’s not exactly something one can just pay for upfront and it means she is left with few options for how she could proceed.
Noah explains that she has been seeing the same doctor for ten years and that she was born with her condition, “this is not something I ever had a choice with.” She claims she’s been paying for the insurance for four years without problems until now.
Healthcare in the U.S. is getting worse
Of course, policies brought in by Donald Trump haven’t exactly helped with changes to the Affordable Care Act driving up the price of premiums for millions of Americans. It doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together and work out that Noah may be one of the millions negatively affected by the president’s policies. “Now, because of Donald F—ing Trump and all of the changes he has made, I can’t have the f—ing heart surgery I need to have!” She states.
But it gets worse as it turns out that Noah’s surgery was automatically denied by an A.I. In a second video she claimed that she had managed to speak to someone from her insurance company, the good news was that she had been approved to have the surgery although there was no guarantee that it would be fully covered by the insurance.
She admits that she’s unsure what will happen money-wise as she still has to appeal the denial but she did find out that the only thing her insurers had denied was the anesthesia, “I’m not really sure how you can have heart surgery without anesthesia.” When she spoke to a human about it they blamed A.I. for the mistake and approved it.
The use of A.I. in health insurance is a worrying development but sadly it’s not unheard of. Viewers expressed their disgust with the capitalist “hellworld” we’re apparently living in now and some even stated this is why Luigi Mangione is still seen as a hero.
