A TikTok creator says a lunch date took an unexpected turn after her date told her he had a baby due in two weeks, and later suggested they charge his Tesla and watch Netflix together in the car.
The video was posted by creator Brittanyy, who goes by @brittanyybowen on TikTok. As of this writing, the video has received 819,200 views, more than 77,900 likes, and over 2,800 comments.
In the TikTok video, Brittanyy said it was her first date since February and described it as the reason she avoids dating. She said she did not know beforehand that the man had a child on the way.
Date began with a Tesla ride and a beer ordered with a straw
Brittanyy said the man messaged her on social media asking her out, noting they had mutual friends so she did not consider him a stranger. She said she initially agreed, then stopped responding for a couple of months before he reached out again to ask her to eat with him. She agreed to go.
She said he picked her up in a Tesla on a Tuesday around 1 p.m. and took her to a brunch spot. At the restaurant, she said the conversation was going well and described him as “really cute.” When he asked if she drank alcohol, she said no, and he decided to order a beer despite it being early afternoon.
Brittanyy said the man then drank his beer through a straw instead of from the glass. She said she asked him about it, and he told her, “yes, I am not putting my lips on that glass. It’s very unsanitary.” She said she recorded video of the moment because she expected people to doubt her story.
Brittanyy said the conversation later turned to children and baby mothers while they were eating. She said she does not want to date anyone who has kids or a baby mother, saying it is “too much” for her and that she prefers a “peaceful, calm life.”
She said she had seen the man socially with mutual friends six to eight months earlier and that he did not have children at that time. When he brought up having a son, she said she assumed the child had already been born. She said he then told her, “she’s due in 2 weeks.”
Brittanyy said she responded by saying she did not want to be involved. She said the man explained that the pregnancy resulted from what he described as a one-time encounter and that he and the mother were not together.
Brittanyy said she has heard similar explanations before and that the details did not change her decision not to pursue him. She said she personally believes people should not be dating while expecting a child and should instead be preparing for the baby’s arrival.
At the end of the meal, Brittanyy said the man handed his phone to the server to pay using Apple Pay, but the restaurant did not accept Apple Pay or tap-to-pay. She said he then told her he did not have his wallet with him. The server offered to manually enter his card information from his phone, and he agreed to that method.
After leaving the restaurant, Brittanyy said the man asked if she wanted to do something else since she had about an hour before she needed to be home. She agreed, saying she was already out and had eaten, and believed she likely would not see him again.
Once they got back into the car, Brittanyy said the man told her the Tesla needed to be charged. She said he then told her, “let’s go and charge the Tesla and just Netflix and chill in the car.” Brittanyy said, “I’m like, what?” She said she does not invite men to her home in order to avoid that situation, and said she was surprised to be asked to do something similar in a car at what she described as a gas station. She said she asked to be taken home after that.
In the caption of her video, Brittanyy wrote, “Is this real life?? Cus this has to be a joke at this point,” and used the hashtags #horribledate, #storytime, #mensuck, #date, and #babymomma. In the video, she said, “Men, if you have children on the way, please don’t go on dates, okay?” First-date payment dilemmas can take many forms, such as when a Houston woman ordered extra food and then told her date why she needed it canceled.
Several commenters responded to the story in the comments section of the video. One commenter wrote, “The beer would’ve been the last straw for me.” Another questioned the missing wallet, writing, “DOESNT HAVE HIS WALLET!? he drove… doesn’t he need idk HIS LICENSE?” Some commenters said they understood Brittanyy’s stance on dating someone with children, with one writing, “nothing wrong with not wanting to date a dude with kids. I get it.”
Other commenters shared their own experiences with similar situations. One wrote, “Imagine being pregnant and the father of the child has left you before due date AND he is seeing other women. God, protect me from this type of men forever.”
Another commented, “I’m pregnant and my baby daddy already has a new girlfriend he lives with. They started dating not even a week after we broke up.” The emotional toll of dating while pregnant can extend to unrelated conflicts, as a man once accused his date of being insecure for questioning his tardiness.
