‘I’m not going outside’: Woman orders groceries via DoorDash, but the delivery guyvmakes her regret even opening the app

This is the first time she had used the app. Needless to say, she will bow avoid it like the plague.

A woman in North Carolina ordered groceries through DoorDash and ended up paying for them twice. The delivery driver came to her apartment and demanded cash for the purchase, even though she had already paid through the app. TikTok user Michaela Burton shared this strange experience as a warning to other customers.

According to Bro Bible, Burton doesn’t usually order groceries through DoorDash, but she decided to try it once. She regretted that decision immediately. The problems started as soon as the Dasher arrived at her building. He didn’t come to her door right away. Instead, he sat in his car outside and sent her a message saying, “Come outside.” He even sent her his actual phone number.

This was very unusual behavior for a delivery driver. Burton thought it was strange, too. She said in her TikTok video that she had never been asked to come outside when ordering delivery before. “I was like, ‘That’s weird. I’m not going outside. Like, this is really strange,’” she continues. “I’ve never been asked to come outside when I’ve ordered things to be delivered.”

The driver’s suspicious claim raised serious red flags

After waiting for a while, the Dasher finally came up and rang her video doorbell. Burton believes he positioned himself so the camera couldn’t capture his face properly.

When Burton opened the door, the situation got worse quickly. The Dasher told her he needed money back because the DoorDash app wasn’t working when he tried to check out. He claimed he had to pay for all the groceries with his own cash. Burton was very confused because the charge had already appeared on her credit card. She could see she had paid for the order through the app.

at the end of the day there a worse things that could’ve happened, but wanted to share so this doesn’t happen to you! @DoorDash #doordash #delivery #scam #scammer #storytimes

She asked him to show her a bank statement or receipt as proof. The Dasher couldn’t provide either one. He kept insisting that he used cash and tried to fix the problem with DoorDash support but couldn’t. After arguing back and forth, Burton decided to send him the money through Apple Pay. She paid him just to end the uncomfortable situation and get him to leave.

Later, Burton realized she was probably scammed. She tried to contact DoorDash to get her money back but couldn’t. She said, “I had to pay for my groceries twice, basically.” This is a terrible situation that can really hurt someone’s budget. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time DoorDash delivery went horribly wrong for customers who trusted the service.

If this ever happens to you, don’t pay the driver. DoorDash drivers are supposed to use a company card called a “Red Card” when they shop and pay for orders. If that card doesn’t work, the driver must follow specific steps from DoorDash. None of those steps include asking the customer for cash. If a driver pays with their own money, DoorDash reimburses the driver directly, not the customer. The best thing to do is refuse to pay and tell the driver to contact DoorDash support, then report the driver right away.

Burton learned from this experience and says she won’t open the door for a Dasher again if there’s a problem. The delivery app has faced other controversies recently, including a DoorDash driver’s involvement in scandal that made headlines. Customers should always prioritize their safety and never feel pressured to pay for something they’ve already bought.
