A dog owner has left the internet in hysterics after sharing a TikTok of her two massive pit bulls completely frozen in terror for 10 minutes. All thanks to a chilling object that dared to fly into their backyard. An empty plastic bag.
Kylie McCarthy, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, captured the hilarious standoff between the two 18-month-old rescue dogs, Mabel and Piper, and the airborne menace. McCarthy, 26, said she initially let the dogs out and quickly heard some frantic barking. “They react similarly to a lot of things as they get spooked easily, especially with inanimate objects,” McCarthy explained. “The plastic bag was a doozy because it was actually moving.”
Newsweek noted that the two dogs simply didn’t know how to handle an enemy that danced on the wind. According to McCarthy, the dogs kept a strict five-foot distance from the bag at all times, and their hair was spiked up the back of their necks the entire time. This high-stakes drama went on for a solid 10 minutes before McCarthy realized she had to intervene and de-escalate the situation.
McCarthy obviously doesn’t get it… Bags are the enemy
This whole scenario is just priceless, and it really crushes the old, tired stereotype that pit bulls are aggressive or dangerous. McCarthy insists that Mabel and Piper are “both babies,” and they panic whenever they encounter anything new or unexpected. The owner had to go outside and physically touch the bag to show her dogs it was harmless. Apparently, the trauma lingered, as they both looked around the yard nervously every time they went out for the next 24 hours.
McCarthy also noted that this isn’t just a yard problem, either. She said that they get spooked so badly by these types of objects that if they see a bag or something similar while on a walk, they have to turn around and go the opposite direction. “They are protective of me when it comes to bad people, but with non-threatening objects, they forget they’re pit bulls and become huge babies,” McCarthy admitted. “I absolutely adore it and get a ton of amusement out of it.”
The video McCarthy shared quickly went viral, racking up over 595,700 views and generating thousands of comments from users who couldn’t get enough of the terrified duo. It turns out that people love seeing the softer side of the breed. One social media user joked that the pair needed to hire some help, writing: “You have to get the pibbles their own guard cat for moments like these.”
Thankfully, it was just a bag, and not something that would bite back or poison left by a horrible neighbor.
