If you’ve been having trouble scrolling through Reddit today, don’t worry ⏤ you’re not alone. Hundreds of users have already taken to Twitter with the same question on their lips: “Is Reddit down?”
It does appear to be the case. When trying to access the social site, the page initially displayed the message, “All of our servers are busy right now,” along with a 503 error code. Although the message has now changed to say “Our CDN was unable to reach our servers,” that doesn’t really clear up much other than letting us know their servers aren’t working properly – although they do provide a link to a site that gives a bit more detail. The Reddit status website clarifies that Reddit is offline (gee thanks), they are aware of the problem, and they are trying to fix it. The website also shows that the outage is on both desktop and mobile.
Interestingly, the site went dark not long after Disney delivered a subpoena to expose the Reddit users that shared Marvel leaks. Coincidence? Probably. The site hasn’t been down for long, at current it’s been an hour and a half, but there’s no guarantee when it will be up and running again. Until then, hopefully Elon Musk will see all the users flooding to Twitter and step in to save the day. Or perhaps he’s behind the site’s blackout as some have jokingly speculated.
Of course, people are losing their minds over the website going dark. To be fair, it’s not a very common occurrence. The last time the site was down on mobile and desktop was the 10th of February and that blackout lasted 3 hours and 44 minutes. If the previous incidents are anything to go by, hopefully this blackout will only last a couple more hours, then we can all go back to posting cat memes and fan theories about upcoming Marvel movies.
