Krispy Kreme worker doesn’t flinch when a man orders 565 donuts. Then she reads back the total and he has one request: ‘please pull forward’

A customer at a Krispy Kreme drive-thru tried to order 565 donuts at once, and the exchange with the store’s automated voice assistant was captured on video. The clip was posted to TikTok by the account @somecopsneedhelp, and it shows the customer negotiating with an AI system rather than a human employee.

The video begins with the AI voice greeting the customer and asking for the order. The customer then said, “Can I get 565 donuts?”

A pop-up message appeared on the drive-thru screen shortly after the request, reading, “Exceeded maximum selection count, retrieving manager.” Despite that alert, the AI voice continued the conversation as normal and asked what kind of donuts the customer wanted.

AI voice read back a total of over $1,400 before the customer asked for a discount

The customer told the AI he wanted “just the regular donuts,” and the assistant confirmed the order and asked if he needed anything else. He replied that the order was complete, and the AI then instructed, “Thank you for coming to Krispy Kreme. Please pull forward to the window.”

The customer, seemingly surprised by the lack of a total, asks, “What’s the total for my order? Can you repeat my total amount?” The Krispy Kreme AI voice then states the hefty sum, “Your total is $1,407.85.” After hearing the total, the customer asked, “Can I get a discount?” The AI voice replied, “Discounts can be handled at the window.” Such large fast-food orders can lead to surprising totals, like when an Ohio man’s order of Big Macs and nuggets at a drive-through and got unexpected total. 

The customer ended the interaction by saying, “Okay, take care. Have a good day,” to which the AI responded, “Thank you, you too.” The video ends with the “Discounts can be handled at the window” message still shown on the drive-thru screen.

The clip drew a lot of comments, with many viewers reacting to the size of the order and its price. One commenter did the math on the order, writing, “The fact that its 1,407 dollars is actually nuts. Thats 2.50 each.”

Another commenter referenced the customer’s exchange at the window, writing, “‘the lady at the speaker promised me a discount at the window.'” A separate commenter pointed to the AI’s tone during the exchange, writing, “Even the robot had a weird tone at the end.” Another comment questioned the etiquette of speaking to an automated system, asking, “Should I be telling the AI to have good day?”

One viewer suggested the customer’s large order may have caught the AI off guard, writing, “You made her very uncomfortable.” Another commenter joked about the AI’s phrasing during the order, writing, “‘Welcome to McDonalds will you be using the mobile app today?’.” The video shows how unusual orders can challenge automated systems, such as when a man ordered something so large at a McDonald’s drive-thru it required manager approval.  

It is not clear from the video or its caption whether the customer completed the purchase at the window.
