‘Life isn’t real’: Woman says a stranger proposed to her in a Walmart parking lot. She’s taken aback when one of his sons handed her a business card

A TikTok creator said a stop at Walmart after work turned into a marriage proposal from a man she did not know. Kelly Brooke, who posts as @kellybrooke.m, described the scene in a video that has gained 78,700 views. The caption on the post reads, “life isn’t real.”

On-screen text in the video said, “I got proposed to in the Walmart parking lot last night???” Brooke spoke to the camera in what appeared to be her home, wearing a black tank top and black pants. She said a woman in a nearby car watched the exchange and thanked that woman for her “solidarity in that moment.”

Brooke said she has never had a “normal interaction” in her life, “apparently.” She added that the parking-lot scene was “fresh off the press, 30 minutes on the brain.” She said she had just finished a work shift and swung by Walmart on her way home because she wanted a snack.

She said her visits had become consistent enough that cashiers know her name and get excited to see her. While she was talking with her favorite cashier, she said, a man and two young boys walked by. The man said, “Have a great night, guys!” Brooke said she assumed he was including her with the employee, so she replied, “Have a great night!” Her cashier said the same, she added.

After she left the store, Brooke said she got into her car and noticed the man’s vehicle on the opposite corner, so they were looking right at each other. She said another woman sat in a car next to hers with the window cracked, “just listening to this all unfold.” Brooke said she heard the man say something and heard the word “Mary.”

She said she popped her head back out and asked, “What? Are you talking to me?” She said she thought he might have believed he knew her. Instead of answering her, she said one of the young boys asked, “Do you want to marry him?” The man then echoed, “Do you want to marry me? We can go to the courthouse tomorrow.”

Brooke said she was perplexed and did not expect a proposal in a Walmart parking lot. She said she replied, “That’s a really interesting way to ask a girl out. Have a good night.” She said she got back in her car, closed the door, and started laughing. She said the woman in the next car was also laughing hysterically.

As she was about to reverse, Brooke said one of the boys, whom she estimated to be “maybe 13, 13 max,” walked up to her car. She said she would not ignore a 13-year-old standing outside her door, so she rolled the window down. She said the boy handed her his father’s business card. Such unsettling encounters at Walmart aren’t unheard of, like when a Florida woman alleges an old man looked her up and down, and two men started following her.

Brooke said she does not want to “demonize this interaction.” She described it as “so outlandish and funny” to her. She said the man “didn’t do anything creepy,” “didn’t pressure me,” and “didn’t coerce me.” She said he “just asked a question and gave me his phone number.” She added that she now has “yet another insane story” in her arsenal.

Viewers responded in the comments with jokes about a wedding or suggestions that Brooke give the man a chance. One person asked, “When is the wedding?” Another commenter said they were probably alone in the view and urged giving the man a chance, writing, “im probably the only one to say this but definitely give the guy a chance lmao, a few texts, maybe a few dates. love happens in mysterious ways!”

A grocery store cashier said regular customers brighten the day and that staff does get excited to see them, writing, “As a grocery store cashier, our regular customers really do brighten our day, we do indeed get excited to see yall ( only the cool regulars tho).”

Another commenter called the scene crazy and pointed to the man’s reaction rather than the boy’s, writing, “lol thats really crazy to me. and its not the young boy, its the guys reaction.” Walmart interactions can be unpredictable, such as when a woman whispered to a stranger to pretend they arrived together, prompting staff to urgently get involved.
