A woman named Dania Purisic, who posts on TikTok as @d.hamed14, shared a video that showed the messy aftermath inside a living room. On-screen text in the clip read, “My husband opening a bottle full of berries from Montenegro and it exploded.” The video’s caption stated, “Thankfully no one got hurt.” The post had drawn over 6.7 million views, 436,700 likes, and 3,400 comments.
The camera in the video moved across a hardwood floor that appeared covered in dark red splatters and scattered berries. The mess looked like it reached onto a rug and was close to some children’s toys. It also showed more debris on the floor, along with a small wooden stool and a TV stand. The red stains seemed to cover a large part of the floor and the rug.
As the view continued, it tilted upward to the ceiling and showed what looked like a large, concentrated splatter of dark red liquid right above the center of the room. The camera then moved down the wall, where streaks of the red liquid appeared to run down the white paint.
Possible reasons plastic bottles can build pressure before opening
The clip then panned across the space again and showed a brown leather recliner and a television that was playing a cartoon. Red stains were visible on the wall behind the TV. The clip ended with another look down at the floor that displayed the full spread of the mess. Sealed bottles can cause other unexpected problems too, as seen with a toddler hurt by a sealed McDonald’s bottle.
According to Link-Tech Machinery, one common reason may be the production of carbon dioxide gas inside the bottle, which can raise the pressure under the cap. The company also noted that a problem with the quality of the bottle itself might allow it to burst from thermal expansion and contraction during high temperatures or transport.
The same source explained that if disinfection during production is not thorough, small amounts of bacteria can remain. Fruit juice or similar nutrient-rich liquids can then become a place where those bacteria grow. Trace bacteria may reproduce in low-oxygen conditions at certain temperatures and produce carbon dioxide gas. This can cause the bottle to expand, and the pressure may make it explode at the moment the cap is unscrewed, as stated.
Link-Tech Machinery further indicated that beverages after the lid has already been opened can be more prone to such issues, especially if someone drinks directly from the bottle. Exposure to air and bacteria from the mouth can enter the liquid. Under warm conditions, a large number of bacteria may grow and produce more carbon dioxide, which can lead to an explosion, according to the details.
Many people who watched the video reacted with surprise at how widely the contents had spread across the room. One viewer simply wrote, “how the hell does this happen.” Another appeared to try to put the mess in perspective and commented, “It could be worse. It could be my problem.” A third response took a more extreme view of the cleanup and stated, “Sell the house.”
Some comments focused on preventing a repeat of the incident. One person wrote, “He’s only allowed to open things outside from now on.” Another viewer summed up the whole situation with a short joke, writing, “That was a berry bad idea.” Packaged food can also surprise people in other ways, like when a hungry man found something odd inside an Uncrustable.
