A man who was enjoying his $30 parmesan-crusted ribeye steak was warned by some of his followers on TikTok, who made cryptic warnings alluding to racism in the service industry and even potential food tampering. While there is little evidence that such things happen at the LongHorn Steakhouse the TikToker was at, viewers still advised caution.
Shawn, or “shawnfoodreviews7” on TikTok, is something of a pro when it comes to food reviews. Posting to his 1.5 million followers, the TikToker shares his thoughts on all kinds of delicious meals, from spicy chicken to Korean burgers.
In a video posted back in August, Shawn filmed himself seated in a LongHorn Steakhouse, trying out a parmesan-crusted ribeye steak. The $30 steak was medium-rare (although viewers claimed it was just medium) and, from the looks of it, pretty tasty too, as Shawn told his viewers, “that steak with this parmesan crust is so fire.” His steak is accompanied by a parmesan-crusted mashed potato, which looks just as good as the steak. Shawn finishes the meal with a loaf of crusty bread and butter.
While Shawn certainly seemed to enjoy his meal, some of his viewers warned him to stay aware of racism in the service industry, pointing to recent incidents that they believe back up their point.
Shawn’s viewers tell him to be careful
Amidst the comments discussing whether or not the steak was medium rare or just rare were warnings. “Oh yall must aint heard what they been doing,” wrote one individual. When asked about what they meant, others alluded to food tampering and racism in the service industry. A recent case saw a woman in Alabama claim her crispy fried chicken from LongHorn Steakhouse was raw.
A recent story from Fox 5 Atlanta detailed poor conditions at a LongHorn Steakhouse after an employee spoke out about alleged “inhumane conditions.” A video obtained by the outlet showed roaches crawling on the kitchen floor.
Another commenter told Shawn, “Be careful they don’t like us,” once again alluding to racism in the industry. Others cited an incident from earlier this year in which an Arby’s employee allegedly spit in a customer’s food with one person writing, “It’s all of them.” Another claimed, “It was thousands of servers there’s gonna be different restaurants Sherlock.”
Others in the comments said the claims were ridiculous, asking, “Oh so you’re not going to go out and eat anywhere ….right.” Another commenter wrote, “Not everyone is gross and evil like that tho some ppl just there to do their job and go home.” While it might be speculation, others believe that there is a genuine problem in the service industry. Whatever the case, it might have given Shawn and others second thoughts about eating out.
