Manhattan man asks for ‘all sausages’ at hotel. Then a woman takes it personally: ‘Got her at hyperbole’

A viral video posted by “@mr.spiceguyeats” (AKA Spice) shows a man standing over a hotel buffet with an assortment of food. As he scoops up a few sausages with a big spoon he excitedly says to himself, “give me all of the sausages.” It’s at this point a woman’s voice can be heard from off camera saying, “there’s other people, you know.”

The man, who had been minding his own business up until that point, turns around to try and explain, resulting in a minor argument between him and the woman. “I’m sorry?” he says, to which the woman repeats herself, telling him there’s other people eating.

BEFORE anyone attacks me. I just meant I was gonna eat a lot of #breakfast sausage. It’s a funny exaggeration. Who in their right mind would eat THAT ENTIRE DISH OF SAUSAGES. #Hotel breakfast was also closing in 12 minutes

He then tries to explain that he didn’t mean he was literally going to eat all of the sausages, but the woman isn’t having any of it. The strange interaction ends with the man trying to make peace by offering her a sausage which she refuses.

Sausages and hyperbole

We are not aware of what went down before the video started nor can we expect everyone to understand figurative speech such as hyperbole, metaphors, and similes. And it appears that the woman took Spice’s statement literally.

Viewers on TikTok claimed that the man’s exaggerated statement went right over the woman’s head, “You got her at hyperbole,” wrote one commenter. “You said hyperbole and she walked away because you were using big words,” added another.

However, a few pointed to the woman’s comment about the man “climbing through” the sausages, “”Climbing through them” is hyperbole: she’s riffing with you. You two have chemistry.” wrote one person. Others contested whether her statement was actually hyperbole or metaphor, either way, it left the guy stunned.

Others in the comments joked that the woman wanted to take all the sausages for herself which is why she got so defensive. Some also critiqued the quality of the buffet food, suggesting they wouldn’t want the sausages anyway,

Meanwhile there were debates over whether or not the woman actually had a point with some claiming Spice needed “to learn good food etiquette.” However, most disagreed with the woman, pointing out that even if the guy had eaten all of the sausages, the staff would have just come out with another tray.

Spice also reiterated in the caption that he had no intention of eating all the sausages, “It’s a funny exaggeration” he wrote. He also claimed that the hotel breakfast was closing in 12 minutes anyway. Whatever the case the odd bickering between Spice and the random woman has given the people of TikTok something to laugh at.
