A Michigan woman says a canceled date turned into an unsettling encounter after her Ring camera allegedly captured a man outside her home, leading her to file a police report. The incident gained attention after TikTok creator Laura (@killalaur) shared a series of videos describing what happened and showing footage from her home’s security camera.
In the first clip, a man can allegedly be seen outside her door. According to the footage she shared, the man says, “OK, cool, just making sure you’re not being abused.” Laura later uploaded a follow-up video with additional context about the encounter, explaining why she decided to cancel a planned outing with the man.
According to Laura’s account in the video, the two had been communicating through Instagram and had planned a trip to the beach together. She said she initially intended to go but felt uneasy as their conversations progressed.
According to Laura, she politely declined
She added that the man’s messages became “weirder and weirder” and described what she viewed as red flags. According to Laura, those “red flags” included comments such as “you’re the woman of my dreams” and suggested they could eventually marry.
She also explained that logistical issues influenced her decision to cancel the outing. According to Laura, the planned beach location lacked restroom facilities, and she ultimately decided not to attend.
Laura said she politely canceled the date and did not intend to continue the conversation further. However, she alleged that the man repeatedly attempted to contact her through Instagram afterward.
“He did not have my phone number. He did not have my address,” Laura said in the follow-up video, explaining that their communication occurred solely through Instagram.
Later that day, Laura said she returned home with her 9-year-old daughter after running errands. She alleged that she noticed a man near her home who she believed resembled the person she had been messaging online.
According to Laura, she quickly went inside because the situation made her uncomfortable. She said she later reviewed footage from her Ring camera after her daughter mentioned hearing the front door.
Laura alleged that the footage showed the man opening her door before making the statement about checking whether she was being abused. She said she contacted police to file a report.
According to Laura, officers did not respond in person. Instead, officers took her report over the phone and provided a link for her to upload the video footage. Laura also said in her TikTok video that the man was a former military member and former police officer, though those claims could not be independently verified.
As of publication, no criminal charges related to the incident have been publicly announced. The allegations described in the videos have not been independently verified.
