A woman on TikTok has exposed the apparent vast inconsistency women face when it comes to clothing sizes. The woman demonstrated her point by comparing two pairs of Old Navy pants to show they were similar in size, only to reveal the big difference between the labeled sizes.
TikToker “Sami” claimed in her video that “Women’s sizing SUCKS,” as she showed two pairs of pants she’d bought from Old Navy on different occasions, one being from a few years ago, while the other was from a few days ago. Despite the two pairs of pants being almost identical in size, Sami claims that there’s a difference of ten sizes between them. She can hardly contain her disbelief at the difference, asking, “Are you kidding me?”
Sami video served as a callout to Old Navy as well as “proof of how bad women’s sizing is.” She also tagged the shop in the caption of her video, asking Old Navy to “PLEASE FIGURE OUT YOUR SIZING i love you with my whole heart but WHAT IS THIS i need consistency.” It may seem small but
People on TikTok can barely believe the difference
In the comments, Sami explained that the blue pair of pants was a size 4 compared to the brown, which was a size 14, after one person asked: “10 sizes or 10 numbers?” Others questioned whether the 14 that Sami had shown wasn’t a child’s size, although others argued that’s not how child sizes work.
It seems as though everyone is confused when it comes to women’s clothing sizes, which, if you think about it, kind of further proves Sami’s point. The sizes are very inconsistent and only make things that much more baffling for the average consumer. Others in the comment section shared their own experience attempting to work out sizes in women’s clothing, proving that it’s not just Sami who’s confused.
One commenter claimed, “I’m a 14, 16, 18, 20,” and a second wrote, “I have size 4 that’s too big and size 18 that’s too small I’m my closet rn.” Meanwhile, another asked, “WHY ISNT ALL CLOTHING JUST SOLD WITH THE MEASUREMENTS AS THE SIZE[?]” It sounds as though people are getting sick of the confusing way women’s clothing sizes are presented.
The comments are filled to the brim with tales of frustration and confusion and, by the sounds of it, most are fed up with it. Men’s clothing typically just gives the measurements of the waistband, which it seems is what most women in the comment section of Sami’s video want.
Clothing sizes can be a sensitive subject as they are sometimes used to shame women, so changing the standards for sizing could change that. The solution is right there, if only a clothing brand were bold enough to take the leap and make things easier for the customer.
