New Jersey woman orders Texas Roadhouse takeout rolls. Then she takes a second look at what she was given: ‘Someone unlocked their inner pastry chef’

She seemed impressed by the creativity.

A New Jersey woman got an unexpected surprise when she opened her Texas Roadhouse takeout bag and found that one of her dinner rolls looked nothing like the other. Naomi Gibson shared the unusual discovery on TikTok, where she compared the two rolls and joked that “someone unlocked their inner pastry chef” at the restaurant.

Gibson showed one roll that looked like the familiar Texas Roadhouse bread, with a smooth, oval shape and golden-brown exterior. But the second roll was noticeably different, featuring several folds that gave it a croissant- or crescent-like appearance.

She rotated the oddly shaped roll for the camera before delivering her verdict. Rather than complain about the unusual bread, Gibson appeared impressed by the employee’s creativity.

Texas Roadhouse bakes its rolls fresh in house and sizes can differ by spot

Gibson tagged Texas Roadhouse in the video caption and asked the chain to raise that employee’s pay. She wrote that their dream is to be a pastry chef. The video had gained almost 10,000 views.

A Chowhound article stated that Texas Roadhouse makes its rolls in-house. The piece said the smell of fresh bread comes from the mix of flour and homemade yeast used at the restaurants.

The article explained that the size and texture of the rolls can vary from one Texas Roadhouse location to another. It said this happens because the rolls are baked fresh on site, so they can differ even at the same spot on different days, depending on who is baking them. Texas Roadhouse’s troubles go beyond roll variations, as a woman was shocked by the massive portion in a family steak meal box

Chowhound noted that heat and humidity can change how yeast breads turn out. Batches are apparently baked every five minutes. During a dinner rush, workers might make some batches a bit smaller to stretch the dough.

Some people on social media have said the rolls are not as good as they used to be and that the chain changed the recipe. Chowhound reported it found no evidence of a recipe change. One person on Reddit apparently said they contacted Texas Roadhouse corporate and were told no change had occurred. The chain’s menu has also faced scrutiny, as a proposed New Jersey law could change Texas Roadhouse menus nationwide.

The outlet suggested that guests who want a different version can ask a server for grilled garlic butter rolls. It said these are made by toasting the rolls and serving them with a side of garlic butter. The rolls are complimentary, so guests can ask for more or take extras home in a to-go box.
