NY man says he found ‘super nice’ brokers and a good apartment. But $4k later, he is ‘pretty much homeless’

A New York resident claims a real estate broker scammed him after they took his money and then disappeared. The man took to TikTok to warn others about Finders.nyc where he described his experience and claimed to have lost $4,000, believing he was paying rent, a deposit, and other expenses for what would have been his new home.

The TikToker, who goes by the name Galore, shared a video telling people in New York to avoid Finders.nyc. “I just got f—ing scammed,” he said, visibly upset as he filmed himself standing on the street. Speaking about the real estate brokers whom he dealt with, he said: “If you see them on Zillow or StreetEasy, run for your f—ing life. They literally scammed me out of $4,000.”

Galore claimed that he first got into contact with Finders.nyc after finding the apartment online and reaching out to them. “They were super nice about everything,” he said, adding, “They only communicated through text, which should have been the first red flag.” He also claimed that the letting agent arrived 15 minutes late. Regardless, Galore went to see the place, decided to go for it, and was quickly approved.

While there were a few moments of confusion during the process of signing contracts, Galore described it as being smooth for the most part. The apartment was even taken off of Zillow, which indicated to Galore that he had got it. 

The company goes dark

However, after Galore had paid the money, he claimed that the company told him he would get the keys after the building manager had signed. When he called the building management company, which Galore explained was “a whole different company,” they told him that they don’t have records for the building his apartment was in. “That’s when it hit me – b—h they got me,” Galore said.

The TikToker was left without a home and $4,000 worse off: “I’m not sure what I’m gonna do. I’m pretty much homeless at this point.” Viewers gave some sound advice that might come in handy: “Take the money order receipt to the post office and cancel it,” suggested one commenter. “You can sue them for your money back and more. They violated your lease agreement,” another claimed. Others recommended he call NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

One commenter claimed that Finders.nyc was “starting to delete stuff off their website,” providing screenshots to prove what they were saying.

While the real estate brokers may have seemed legit, people have been skeptical when it comes to the company in the past. Earlier in August, a Reddit user asked if anyone had had experiences with Finders.nyc, describing the same text-only communication and lack of an office, which Galore claimed were red flags.
