NYC motorcyclist weaves through traffic to find reason for jam. Then she allegedly pulls up to a Tesla and looks in the window: ‘homie is dead asleep’

“New York City already has enough traffic.”

A New York City motorcyclist recently accidentally captured a “NYC traffic jam with a plot twist ending.” FacelessBae then shared the footage on Instagram, explaining that she made the discovery because she got impatient during standstill traffic. The freeway she was driving on was partially blocked by traffic. However, since she was on her bike, she split through the traffic and eventually discovered the almost unbelievable source. Unsurprisingly, the post racked up over 943K views.

In her video, FacelessBae told her audience,  “Okay, so this was actually kind of a crazy turn of events. I’m shocked that I even caught this on video, but this is going to show you that not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes they ride motorcycles. The cars are all zigzagged. I can barely split through, but I’m still making my way anyway because I have no patience.”

After navigating around a few vehicles, she eventually reached the front of the line to see what was causing the gridlock. FacelessBae alleged, “So I see this Tesla with his hazards on, but it looks like the road is open in front of him, so I’m kind of confused to see if he’s broken down. Pull up next to him, only to find out homie is dead asleep.”

Waking him up only led to more confusion

In the video, we saw her trying to get the driver’s attention. Her overlay text simply read, “Wakeyyy wakeyyy,” and he woke up fairly quickly. She asked, “Hey. Are you broken down? Or we’re not supposed to go?” The driver purportedly seemed incredibly disoriented, and the overlay on her video claimed, “No response. Homies looks dazed af.” The driver eventually, per her captions, said, “I think it’s closed, right?”

FacelessBae kept driving to figure out if the road was actually closed. She claimed that the Tesla immediately followed her. Then the clip jumped ahead to a very empty road and recorded her conversation with a construction worker, who confirmed that the lane was perfectly fine to drive through.

As she rode down the still empty road, she alleged, “So yeah, I don’t really know what happened, but I’m glad I woke Homie up from his little power nap, because New York City already has enough traffic, and ain’t nobody got time for that.” Of course, this story is based on her perspective only, and shouldn’t be treated as verifiable fact.

Instagram was floored. One user commented, “What do you mean you just stop in the middle of the freeway and take a nap because you think it’s closed brother what.” Another added, “Anyone who’s not surprised it’s a Tesla owner.” A third wrote, “I would’ve exploded. People will really create traffic. Like what?”

Some followers speculated about the cause. One user alleged, “I bet the farm he activated full self driving (FSD) and fell asleep. If you arent actively paying attention it warns you a bunch of times. If you dont respond it pulls over and turns your hazards on.”

When a commenter asked why the cars behind the Tesla weren’t honking, FacelessBae uploaded a follow-up post with the raw audio of the encounter. She captioned it, “The plain audio. Not a single beep was heard. which is really odd for New York. I still don’t know what was going on but it makes for a funny video lmao.”

In that clip, her overlay text read, “A lot of people want to know if the cars behind the sleeping man were beeping. The answer is no. Just chillin. Everyone was just in NPC mode.”

According to NBC News, this driver’s alleged behavior is becoming increasingly common. They reported that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software is designed to handle driving tasks under human supervision, but it is not autonomous. Despite this, some drivers are intentionally napping while the car is in motion.

One Tesla owner named Josh told NBC News that he naps behind the wheel about once a week, using sunglasses to bypass the internal cameras meant to monitor driver alertness. However, this practice is illegal and violates the terms and conditions set by Tesla. Law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, have warned that sleeping behind the wheel prevents a driver from safely operating a vehicle.

While some owners feel confident in the technology, the reality is that the software has been involved in multiple crashes. Per NBC, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has noted that driver misuse of such systems creates a “critical safety gap.” In another instance, Waymo’s self-driving mode drove onto a train track.

Additionally, the outlet noted that Tesla has updated its hardware and software to monitor attentiveness. However, some drivers have found ways to circumvent these safeguards, even creating a trend of “robot-assisted” napping on social media.
