Oregon woman was quoted $12-15K for one tooth implant. Then she told her dentist ‘not that much’ and changed the appointment

Commenters compare implant costs across several U.S. states.

A TikTok creator who goes by the username @cascade.carls said her dentist quoted her between $12,000 and $15,000 for a single tooth implant. The exchange, which she recounted in a video, has drawn thousands of comments from viewers sharing their own dental costs.

In the video, on-screen text shows the creator describing a conversation with her dentist. According to the text overlay, the dentist asked her “how much do you miss your tooth,” to which she replied, “not that much, I can get different implants for that price.”

The dentist then said, “I’ll see you and the twins in 6 months.”

Creator says treatment plan included a sinus lift and bone graft

The creator captioned the post, “Why is this generation so unserious,” and tagged it under dental and dentistry-related hashtags. The video shows her sitting still with a deadpan expression while the on-screen text tells the story, and a pop song plays in the background.

In the comments section, the creator said her case involved more than just an implant. She said her situation stemmed from a “nasty root canal” she had gotten 20 years earlier that “just didn’t age well.” She added that she believes she has “great dental hygiene” but said she has “terrible genes.” Unnecessary dental treatment has drawn scrutiny before, including a case where a mom fought her kids’ school over a dental scam.

When a commenter said, “You could get on for 6-7 thousand in Wisconsin. That includes the implant and the crown that goes on it afterwards,” the creator asked whether the price included a sinus lift and bone graft, “Does that include sinus lift and bone graft too?!??” JHO replied that bone grafting typically costs around $500, and said the sinus lift was likely the reason her treatment plan was so costly, adding that sinus lifts “can be pricey.”

The creator also said in the comments that the tooth in question was her last top molar, and that her dentist told her she did not necessarily need the implant. “I said SAY LESS,” she wrote.

Several commenters shared their own implant costs in response to the video. A commenter said their dentist charges $3,900 per implant and said that price “appears to be a bargain” compared to the quote in the video.

A commenter named Julia said her husband got an implant along with a bone graft for $6,000 in Oregon City, Oregon. The commenter JHO said implants in Wisconsin could cost between $6,000 and $7,000, which she said would include both the implant and the crown placed on top of it.

A commenter said she paid $7,500 for an implant after what she described as a failed root canal that had allegedly been “done incorrectly” and led to an abscess. She said she does not have poor oral hygiene and had gotten a regular cleaning about a month before the issue occurred. She noted her case was treated as an emergency, and said the price she paid was still about half of what the creator was quoted. Some untreated dental infections have led to medical emergencies in other reported cases.

The creator responded to jess_henn’s comment by saying her own root canal issue was similarly the result of aging, not hygiene. “OH LORD I HOPE THEY HAD PAYMENT PLAN ID DIE,” she wrote in a follow-up reply, adding that she felt fortunate her situation involved her last top molar rather than a more essential tooth.

The video’s caption suggests the creator found the exchange with her dentist amusing rather than distressing, and the tone of her replies in the comments section was largely lighthearted. The comment section has become a space where users compare regional pricing for dental implants, with quoted costs ranging from roughly $3,900 to over $12,000 depending on the provider and the complexity of the procedure.

Dental implant costs can vary widely depending on factors such as location, the need for a bone graft or sinus lift, and whether a crown is included in the price. The creator’s video did not specify which dental practice or provider issued the original quote.
