‘Pay it or leave’: Louisiana woman calls Planet Fitness ‘scammers’ after they claim she owes $500 but won’t tell her what for

The woman also claimed that this manager tried to forge her signature.

A Louisiana woman has taken to TikTok to put her local Planet Fitness gym on blast after a manager allegedly demanded that she pay $500. The woman claims that she was told to either pay or leave but wasn’t given a reason as to why she had to pay the expensive fee.

“I got kicked out of Planet Fitness because they’re scammers,” TikToker Kate said in a recent video. She went on to claim that she went to the gym as usual, noting a new lady working at the gym, “I’ve never seen her before,” she states. When she goes to scan her membership to enter, she gets told to stop by the woman. “She tells me that I have a balance due.”

Kate goes to make accusations against the Planet Fitness staff, saying the woman demanded that she pay $500. “How can that be?” Kate asks, “I pay my black card membership every month. I pay my annual fee; what’s happening?” She claims that the woman refused to tell her what the $500 balance was for: “She won’t tell me, she says, ‘I can’t tell you; you can either pay it or leave.’”

While Kate apparently argued that she wouldn’t pay such an expensive fee without knowing what it was for, the woman (who Kate explained was a manager in the caption) allegedly refused to back down, simply telling her she had to pay it and that she couldn’t enter the gym until she did.

It may have been a scam

Kate ultimately decided to leave after 15 minutes of back-and-forth between her and the supposed manager, whom Kate accused of giving her “attitude”. However, after a few moments stewing over it in her car, she marched back in to confront the woman once again. She was met with the same response, so she decided to cancel her membership, to which the manager apparently told her she would sign the cancellation for her, which Kate refused to let her do.

Commenters on TikTok were convinced that the woman was trying to scam Kate and expressed doubts over whether she was really a Planet Fitness employee in the first place. “She was definitely not an employee,” wrote one person. “It’s her scam,” another agreed.

Others advised that Kate contact an attorney, pointing out that the woman threatening to forge her signature for the cancellation was illegal. Others theorized that the woman may have been a temporary worker with her own card reader.

Viewers have been asking Kate for an update on the situation, but it seems as though she’s already put the drama behind her and moved on to another gym.
