A pregnant woman on TikTok has shared an awkward but somewhat wholesome interaction with a cop after trying out a rather novel method for inducing labor.
The woman, who goes by “BRATZBABY” on TikTok was recording herself doing something which is known as “curb walking,” a rather unusual method for trying to induce labor. In the caption within the video she explains that she is 38 weeks pregnant.
While we don’t see the beginning of the video, it seems like she’s been curb walking for some time. You can hear her say, “I think that’s a cop,” as she marches with one foot on the curb and the other off of it. As she turns around to walk back a voice can be heard off camera calling out to her before asking, “you got your exercise going on?” The woman then explains that she’s curb walking and the one of the police officers admits, “I’ve never heard of that one.”
One of the cops goes on to explain that they had received a call, “someone was worried about you,” but the woman assures them she’s alright and that the odd walk along the curb was an attempt to induce labor. The officers seem to understand the situation, asking if she’s using other methods too including “spicy foods and yoga balls.” After determining everything is okay the officers politely excuse themselves.
What on Earth is curb walking?
Viewers on TikTok were less interested in the police interaction and much more curious about this “curb walking” technique being used by the woman. While it might seem pretty self explanatory based on the video many commenters admitted, (myself included) that they had never heard of such a method to induce labor.
It might sound like a load of hogwash but there is some logic to the idea of curb walking. According to thebump.com is considered an effective and natural method of inducing labor at home, (or more accurately, just outside your home). The method involves walking in an uneven manner, with one foot up on the curb and the other on the street. “This lopsided walking helps to open the pelvis and, hopefully, allows the head to descend into a good position [before birth].”
Ultimately, curb walking could well help with inducing labor but it is not a guarantee. Going into labor involves a lot of complex biological processes. Either way, there’s no harm in giving it a shot, just keep an eye out for concerned neighbors who might think you’ve lost your marbles and call the police on you.
