‘So confused’: Best Buy manager refused to honor the $100 price on headphones sitting right in front of her. 5 mins later, they quickly make a u-turn

A second manager had to get involved.

Angie Pineda, who posts on TikTok as @musclemuffinn, said in a video that has gained 271,400 views that a Best Buy manager would not honor a $100 online price on an open-box pair of headphones that were sitting in the store. She said she had already returned a different pair that same day and came back after seeing the listing for pickup at that location.

Pineda said in the TikTok video that she was “so confused” after the first manager typed on a computer and walked away without saying a word. In her caption, she wrote that she had been “so nice to the manager, so when he walked away I was genuinely so confused bc wtf.” She tagged Best Buy and added that it was “literally the only time I’ve ever experienced something like this in my LIFEEEEE.”

She said they first bought Skullcandy headphones for running, found them “horrible,” and immediately returned them. After leaving to do research, she said she returned because she saw an open-box pair of Shokz Dot headphones listed online for $100 in “good condition,” available for pickup at that specific store. She said the regular price was about $200.

Online listing showed $100 for in-store pickup while the box in front of her was marked $140

Pineda said she asked a worker where the open-box items were kept so she could check the condition. She said the worker grabbed a box and told her they were $140. Pineda said she pointed out that the online listing showed $100 for good condition, while the box in the store was marked excellent condition at $140.

She said the worker scanned the SKU on that box and it pulled up online as the good-condition pair for $100. Pineda said the store told her they could not price match. She asked the worker to get a manager.

Pineda said the first manager “already pisses me off with the attitude he has.” She said she explained that the $100 listing was for pickup at that store and that she could not ship it there. She said the manager told her that was not true and that an online order would come from somewhere else, such as Kentucky or Texas.

She said she told him the other condition listings required shipping, but this one said pickup only at that location. Pineda said the manager kept denying it and told her if she wanted those headphones, they were $140. She said she then told him she would just buy them online for $100 and pick them up in an hour.

Pineda said the manager started typing on the computer and walked away without saying a single word. She asked the worker to bring another manager and said she told the second manager the first one was “literally so rude.” She said that after the first manager typed on the computer, the item showed as unavailable when she tried to buy it online. For Best Buy, the trouble didn’t stop at the price tag, as a woman returned to TJ Maxx for dream furniture after it dropped to $199, only to find it marked in red all over.

She said she handed her phone to the second manager, who “starts doing some little thing” and fixed it so she could complete the $100 purchase. Pineda said the second manager then told her she would have to pick them up the next day because the store was about to close and the order needed time to process. She asked if she would get the exact box that had not been price-matched, and she said he confirmed that was the box she would get.

Pineda said she got a call “literally 5 minutes later” and picked up “the exact ones that he kept saying weren’t the ones that were online.” She said she paid $100, “not $153 like he kept trying to tell me that I was wrong.” Price disputes at Best Buy can drag on until a second manager steps in, as when a shopper was surprised they wouldn’t honor a $100 open box deal and had to call in a second manager.

Viewers weighed in with mixed reactions in the comments. One commenter said they did not understand why she argued in the store instead of ordering online. They wrote, “i don’t understand why argue when you can just order it online like they said & save yourself the headache.”

Another commenter said the store could have price-matched. They wrote, “they could’ve price matched, they just didn’t want to. they even price match things that are shipped and sold by Amazon.” A third commenter said they would have gone higher. They wrote, “I also would’ve called corporate!”

One commenter suggested her tone may have played a role and said online pricing is different from in-store pricing. They wrote, “It was probably ur tone of whole conversation. Yeah you need to understand online pricing its different then in store .”

Pineda replied that the manager denied the products were the same and said an online order would bring a pair from another state in a day or two. She wrote that she explained it was in-store pickup only, that he ignored her and said those were not the same ones, and that she ordered online and five minutes later got that exact pair.
