A Facebook post by Weird Facts recently shared a bizarre and weird incident from 2012 that unfortunately doesn’t seem to have a resolution. The creator claimed that in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a woman had discovered her former boyfriend living in her attic.
In their post, they wrote, “In September 2012, in Rock Hill, a woman named Tracy, a single mother of five, was shocked to discover her former boyfriend in her attic after hearing strange thumping noises and noticing nails beginning to pop through her ceiling. Tracy, who had broken up with the man more than 12 years earlier, first heard odd sounds and felt uneasy, but her kids told her she was ‘hearing things.’”
They further alleged, “One night, after plaster fell from the ceiling and noises continued, she called a relative to investigate — only to find her ex-boyfriend hiding in the attic space. The discovery left her shaken, and the man fled the house on foot before police arrived.”
News outlets recorded the incident but provide no conclusion
The comments section to the post was varied. There were users who found the post disturbing. One user commented, “I would’ve acted like I didn’t notice and nailed the attic entrance shut.” Then there was the contingent who thought the story was fake, as one noted, “Interesting and nice try but if this was real they would’ve given both names.” Interestingly, recently a TikToker claimed to hear a phone buzzing in her attic and suspects something is living there.
Many users responded with jokes. One wrote, “I’m calling a roofer in the morning to check if any of my exes are crawling around up there.” Other comments included, “Guess he was a keeper,” “That’s a real squatter right there!!,” and “Stalker hall of fame.”
One commenter managed to highlight some of the confusion in the comments, noting, “So many questions….how did he use the bathroom, shower, eat….this is disturbing.” In a different case, a TikToker shared that she was put on anti-psychotics for being sure someone was in her attic and was later vindicated.
Then there were the users who knew of the case. One wrote, “To be clear he only lived there for a few days.” According to ABC News, this is what Tracy believed too.
ABC reported that after Tracy, a 41-year-old mother, noticed the sounds and nails, she and her two older sons initially checked the attic, but they found nothing. She recalled, “The kids were saying, ‘You’re getting old. You’re hearing things. You’re crazy.'” Despite their skepticism, she could not ignore what she heard. “I kept hearing a bumpin’, thumpin’ noise,” she told ABCNews.com. “It was either something or somebody was in the attic. I know the sounds of my home.”
She claimed that one day, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the noise became loud enough to wake her, which is when she finally called her nephew to investigate the space. According to the outlet, it was during this check that the nephew allegedly discovered the ex-boyfriend hiding in the area where a light had been out.
Per the outlet, Tracy claimed that she later discovered containers of urine and feces in the attic, which led her to believe the man had been living there for several days. She claimed that he had been recently released from a 90-day jail sentence related to the theft of her truck. “We are still figuring out how he got in the house,” Tracy said. “I want him charged. I feel violated.”
9News reported that the man had been sleeping in the house’s heating unit. They noted that according to the police report, the man appeared to have rigged the ceiling vents in a way that allowed him to peer directly into the woman’s bedroom.
According to WYFF and ABC, Tracy claimed that she had broken up with the man about 12 years before the incident. However, per WYFF, he had allegedly performed some work on her home about a year prior to the incident. The outlets noted that the intruder managed to climb out of the attic and escape on foot before the police arrived.
Since he fled the scene, he was not apprehended. There have been no further updates regarding charges or his whereabouts since the incident occurred.
