Last week’s episode of The Mandalorian may not have been the best amongst divided Star Wars fans. But don’t you dare say that this is something that George Lucas wouldn’t do. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to one critic who wasn’t fond of the celebrity cameos that appeared in Chapter 22, titled “Guns for Hire.”
Twitter user @PDakkadakka was hit with a Twitter Community Note after their criticism about the latest episode had a tiny piece of misinformation. OP claimed that the decisions made by Disney in the Star Wars franchise would be frowned upon by George Lucas if he were still alive.
However, Twitter clarified the post by stating that Lucas is alive and is currently 78 years of age. OP then began to double down, claiming that the Star Wars creator “died and was replaced,” hence why the films post the main trilogy declined in quality.
OP was relentlessly mocked on social media since out of all the Star Wars films, TV episodes, and characters to be mad about, it’s The Mandalorian that they’re upset about the most. Jack Black and Lizzo’s cameos are just minor characters compared to the rest of the Star Wars ensemble. Did they forget about Jar Jar Binks? Or The Star Wars Holiday Special?
This tweet made its rounds on r/FacePalm on Reddit, where fans were reminded that not only Lucas is still alive and doing well for himself, but this is something Lucas would do. An example is the casting of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu and how he received a purple lightsaber because “it was cool.”
Others theorized that OP is upset because it’s an interracial couple that appeared on screen. Interesting since they’re fine with space aliens existing with different appearances and backgrounds. Not to mention, Lucas is in an interracial marriage with Mellody Hobson, the former chairperson of Dreamworks.
The latest episode of The Mandalorian may not be the greatest compared to the rest of the series. But if one were to assume that this is something Lucas wouldn’t want, one might need a quick refresher on Star Wars and the creator’s history before making such claims.
