A street taco vendor stopped a regular customer mid-goodbye to ask him a personal question, and the exchange that followed ended up being shared widely on social media. The video was posted by a man named Chris Vu on Instagram, who captured the moment on camera and shared it with his followers.
In the clip, Chris is seen walking away from a colorful taco cart when the woman working behind it calls out to him. According to the video, she asked him directly, “You have a girlfriend?” Chris said no, and the woman, identified later as Tania, told him she had someone in mind for him.
“I have a girl for you,” Tania said. She described the woman as “100% Latina” and “a Mexican girl” who she said was “a beautiful woman.” Chris appeared to play along, joking, “No, I love the tacos,” when Tania mentioned the woman was Mexican. He also asked her more than once, “Is she crazy?” Tania assured him she was not.
The taco lady closed her stand on her day off so Chris and the woman she set him up with could meet there
Tania’s son later got in touch with Chris to work out the details of the meeting, according to a follow-up video Chris posted. In that Instagram video, Chris is seen on a phone call with the son, who said he was acting as a translator for his mother. The son relayed that Tania was suggesting a date on a Wednesday at 7 or 7:30 PM.
When Chris asked whether the stand was open on Wednesdays, the son confirmed it was not, but said Tania would open it specifically so the two could meet there. “She’ll open especially for you guys so you guys can meet up,” the son said. Chris reacted with visible surprise, saying, “Yo, what the heck?”
Tania also spoke during the call. “I see you Wednesday on 7:30. You remember, right?” she said. Chris confirmed he would add it to his calendar. The call ended with both sides exchanging thanks, with Tania saying, “Okay, okay, see you, Chris.”
Before the date, Chris posted a third video on TikTok showing him getting a haircut from his mother, Jessica Huynh, whom he said has been cutting his hair for about 25 years. In the video, he told viewers he was getting ready for what he called his “date with my Latina.”
His mother, who works as a barber and stylist, appeared in the video and said “Finally!” when Chris asked her, in Vietnamese, whether she was happy he was going on a date with a Latina, according to the clip.
At the end of the haircut video, Chris thanked his followers for their support. “It’s been such a crazy week. I’m so excited for everything,” he said. His mother added her own message to viewers: “Thank you for supporting my son. Follow him more and more and more.” In a similar story, a TikToker makes an offer to switch seats at a Houston Astros game.
In the comments section of the original video, several Instagram users weighed in on the situation. One commenter wrote, “It means she likes you bro it’s probably a friend or family member she thinks your dope enough to join the fam haha.”
Another commenter, who identified themselves as Tania’s child, wrote, “Bro thats my mom, her name is Tannia btw.” A third commenter said, “She likes you enough to introduce you to someone, you should go – it might be the best thing to happen to you!!” Similar unexpected first encounters have recently been shared on social media, like a New York woman’s awkward date.
Chris ended his third video by saying, “Thank you guys so much for all the love and support. Like, it’s been such a crazy journey this last week, and I’m so grateful for each and every single one of you guys. I love you guys so much. Peace.” Chris has shared all three videos across both his Instagram and TikTok accounts.
