A Texas business by the name of La Spiga Bakery has taken to TikTok to accuse a pizza company of failing to pay for more than 30,000 pizza crusts it says it baked and provided. The company, Medulla’s Pizza, reportedly commissioned the order and has since started selling pizzas at Walmart, according to La Spiga, which says it has not been paid.
La Spiga advertises itself as an “Authentic Italian Bakery with a passion for great bread” on TikTok. The bakery doubles as a cafe for customers who want to dine in, as well as a wholesale breadmaker that businesses can commission to bake large batches of bread for any purpose.
It can be tough out there for small businesses. According to a video posted on the La Spiga TikTok account, the bakery says Medulla’s Pizza commissioned more than 30,000 pizza crusts and has not paid for them.
“I’m sure by now you’ve all heard of Medulla’s Pizza; that’s in your local Walmart,” business owner Caroline said in her video. In case the audience hadn’t heard of Medulla’s, she held the pizza, still in the packaging, up to the camera and told viewers, “There are a few things you might wanna know before you go out and buy your next pizza. Stay tuned for more.”
La Spiga’s accusation against Medulla’s Pizza
In a second part, Caroline accuses Medulla’s of commissioning over 30,000 pizza crusts five months ago. She says the product is now being sold in Walmart, but that La Spiga’s still hasn’t received payment for the huge batch of crusts they provided. “They have, in turn, sold it to Walmart and gotten paid, but we have not yet seen anything.”
The bakery made the videos to reach out to the community for help, asking viewers on TikTok for any advice on what to do next. Viewers were angry that the bakery had allegedly been scammed. “I would reach out to the frozen foods category buyer at Walmart and explain the situation. And see if you can sell them directly,” one viewer recommended. Others had similar suggestions, saying La Spiga could cut out the middleman and sell their product directly to Walmart in the future.
The Medulla’s Pizza TikTok account appears to have turned off comments, though the reason is unclear.
As of writing, Medulla’s Pizza has not publicly addressed the allegations, and neither side’s account could be independently verified.
