The wondrous world of TikTok has been the propellant of some of the largest trends to ever have entered the world of social media. Recently, the app has gone back to its primordial roots, with dance trends becoming — once again — a popular force among users who just can’t help but join in on all the fun. Although trends come and go at neck-breaking speed, some become so popular that they become a widespread force on the app, taking the world by storm.
Most recently, some of the biggest trends on the app include the viral coconut challenge and even the simple act of taking the so-called “Soldier, poet, and king” quiz. The wide plethora of challenges, trends, and sounds that have gone viral on TikTok have permeated pop culture to a degree not previously seen before. One of the most recent trends to have entered this arsenal of challenges is the dance trend called “anime lover.”
This fun dance trend is set to ppcocaine’s unreleased song “Anime Lover,” and users appear to use the section of the song with the lyrics “What she watch? She watch anime, catch her heart like Kisame.” The dancing trend went viral in January after user Trxe.tlou posted a video of Michael from Grand Theft Auto V dancing to the song. This video garnered over 4.8 million views in three weeks, inspiring thousands of users to do their take on the quirky dance routine.
In reality, the audio had already been used in 2021 by user Lansdelray, who posted a video of a man dancing to the song, but it wouldn’t be until nearly two years later that it would go viral on the app. Earlier this month, user unhingedkeb posted a video where she, alongside her friends, danced to the song. That video also went viral, with over 1.6 million views in ten days. From then on out, the peculiar dance has become a challenge for everyone to take.
So there you have it. It’s nothing but a fun, harmless take on a song, so put on your dancing shoes, find the right audio, and get to dancing. The cure for boredom!
