‘They’re literally crying’: TikTok ready to call the cops as woman dumps live crabs in air fryer while they frantically claw for escape

The TikTok army is assembling over a video of apparent animal cruelty.

A woman has upset a huge portion of TikTok after sharing a cooking video in which she air fries two live crabs while the crustaceans seemingly scream in pain.

There are all kinds of sick and twisted people out there. The internet may be a wonderful thing, but unfortunately you do run the risk of being exposed to disturbing content. In this case a cooking video on TikTok featuring animal cruelty against crabs. The short video posted by @contentwithcee (Chels) features instructions on how to make a crab boil using an air fryer, however, the poster makes the controversial choice to use live crabs.

Shockingly the video is still up although it won’t be linked here due to the content. In the video we see Chels drop the crabs in a bowl, cover them with a variety of seasonings and then place them in the air fryer while they are still very much alive. As you’d expect the crabs proceed to experience one of the worst deaths imaginable as they are slowly cooked alive.

People on TikTok do not condone the animal cruelty

Almost all the comments on the original video express anger towards the poster. One person wrote, “there was literally no need to put them in alive.” Another viewer pointed out that during a certain portion of the video it sounds like the crabs are screaming. While crabs technically don’t have the organs necessary to vocalize a scream, they do feel pain according to science.org. They are also sentient enough to feel fear, meaning if they could scream they probably would.

Others mentioned Howie the crab, a popular TikTok account featuring two very intelligent crabs known as Howie and Winnie. The lovable crustaceans have shown many just how intelligent crabs really are which makes what was done in the air fryer video even more disturbing.

The mother of Howie the crab even posted a response to the unnecessary cruelty of the video. She emphasized the importance of recognizing that “crabs are sentient.”

@howiethecrab

We need to talk about the air fryer video. Its extremely cruel to cook animals alive. It’s time we recognize that crabs are sentient and deserve humane treatment. If you choose to consume shellfish, please humanely spike them before cooking. For Howie and Winny ❤️🦀 #airfryer #bekindtoanimals #howiethecrab #winnythecrab

While some may be under the impression that crabs don’t feel pain or that they lack sentience this is simply not true. What the Chels’ video really amounts to is animal cruelty plain and simple.

One individual made a video response explaining that torturing animals prior to death actually makes the meat taste worse.

So not only is the air fryer lady exposing her psychopathic tendencies, she’s also apparently making sub-par meals that nobody but her will likely enjoy.

The lesson to be learned

When all is said and done the main takeaway here is that just because crabs don’t look intelligent or capable of feelings doesn’t mean that is the case. Maybe we could give Chels the benefit of the doubt and assume she didn’t know that. But she certainly does now so she should probably remove that video because the TikTok mob are pretty riled up over it.
