TikTok’s ‘walking into random houses’ trend is just as inappropriate — and potentially dangerous — as it sounds

Say it with me, kids: Trespassing isn't cool.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, trespassing on people’s private homes isn’t the brightest idea anyone could have. Also unsurprisingly, the newest TikTok trend seems to have absolutely missed the memo, potentially endangering lives in the process.

Last week, a viral TikTok video made its way onto everyone’s social media showcasing a few friends entering someone’s home completely uninvited, because apparently, an open door is an invitation for anyone to make themselves at home – or at least, that’s what some TikTokers believe. Even if the video was eventually deleted upon receiving a wave of backlash and disapproving comments, the clip was still posted on Twitter, where it garnered immense negative attention from users.

Thankfully, the irrational idea did not prove to be fatal, probably because it was recorded in the United Kingdom. Considering the current happenings in the United States, where even children are being endangered for knocking on strangers’ doors – despite not being at all a menace – it doesn’t come as a surprise that the video would immediately go viral among Americans who were absolutely flabbergasted that anyone would do something so reckless.

Unfortunately, this trend isn’t limited to European soil. As more and more people join in on this erratic and borderline inappropriate behavior, several TikTokers and content creators have also given their shot at this trend, despite the possible fatal or legal outcomes that may arise from their actions, as was the case with the aforementioned TikToker who has since been sought for by the police and promptly arrested.

Naturally, this isn’t the first nor will it be the last trend on the social media giant to receive negative reactions from users, but while some young people are easily impressionable, it should be fairly easy to remember that no one should ever enter someone’s private property completely uninvited, for several reasons, including everyone’s safety in these avoidable situations.

Hopefully, the trend will die out as quickly as it started, and people will forget about it in record time. That is until another dumb trend comes around the corner.
